(CBS) Shortly after 9/11, the Pentagon ordered a top secret team of American commandos into Afghanistan with a single, simple order: kill Osama bin Laden. It was America's best chance to eliminate the leader of al Qaeda. The inside story of exactly what happened in that mission, and how close it came to its objective has never been told until now.

Such a waste of space when all that was needed is “it’s all Bush’s fault”.

CBS is doing this??? Why? So they catch one of our good guys doing something necessary and they can call him out for it?

I HARDLY think it's going to be a good guys piece.

Pinging myself for tomorrow.

The buck stops with the President....if in this instance it indeed did occur as stated, it is “Bush’s fault”.

Saw it. From the officer’s detail, it sounds seems credible .. his pen name is Dalton Fury, and his book is being released, “Kill Bin Laden.” He was in disguise, with his real name changed. He never knew who in the command order above him gave the order to call off the operation when they were about 2K meters from a dwelling where they thought OBL was.

One great handicap was that even the Afghanis fighting with the Deltas, against OBL, are totally in awe of him, plus they only fight in the daytime, so when an opportunity came at night, there was no way the Deltas could prudently proceed.

He described a day when OBL was speaking on the radio, and an Afghani soldier held up the radio up diligently so they wouldn’t lose reception. The Afghanis were captivated, hearing him.

Good evening.

I'm not 100% sure, but methinks Osama assumed room temperature at approximately 0200 hrs Zulu on 12 December 2001.

That’s a fantasy, in my opinion.

I can think of several in the
military and admin (Richard
Clark, Michael Scheuer) who
could’ve halted it.

~~~~
Michael Scheuer, former CIA officer and head of the Bin Laden unit from 1996-1999 wrote a book “Imperial Hubris.” I have read this book, he basically looks through Osama Bin Laden’s words like they are a recipe for peace book.
He has a lot of knowledge about Islam and al Qaeda, but to me it simply does not make sense to believe the Jihadists’ instructions that they give to us so we can have peace.
I read this book before it was endorsed by Osama Bin Laden. Bin Laden said (page 6) in September 2007,
“And if you would like to get to know some of the reasons for your losing of your war against us, then read the book of Michael Scheuer in this regard.” The anti war left loves Michael Scheuer’s book “Imperial Hubris.” Of course I doubt they have the same fondness of his comments about Bill Clinton when he said, “Bin Laden is alive today because Mr. Clinton, Mr. Sandy Berger, and Mr. Richard Clarke refused to kill him.”
The difference in the analysis of Walid Phares and Michael Scheuer is that Walid Phares sees it as a global conflict with Jihadism while Michael Scheuer believes that terrorists attack us because of our foreign policy. Walid Phares has the advantage of being fluent in Arabic which gives him a greater ability to study what the Jihadists say to each other, not just what they want us to hear.
I saw the CBS. It really wasn’t a hit piece on the WH administration. It didn’t try to lay blame...
I do not believe this. If you are Bin Laden why in the hell would you speak live on the radio to your troops when the United States is trying to kill you. We would have a radio fix on him and kill him. Repeat, I do not believe this. Until I see and hear Bin Laden reading the Front Page of the New York Slimes I think he is dead.
If I recall, the WH was barely mentioned. They never asked the Delta Force guy if he needed more troops, was getting Bin Laden a priority, etc...
What overt criticism did you see? All in all, it doesn’t matter anymore. The administration is just biding its time now.
It was said that 2 plans that may have had a chance to kill bin laden were nixed for no apparent reason by someone higher up in the chain of command, meaning the White House. Maybe the one plan was nixed by a commanding general because he did not want to pit 25 Delta operators against 1000 al queda with no backup. They framed the questions they did for a reason. Everyone that I watched it with thought it was obvious that they were trying to pin the blame on the President.
