Obama Leads McCain in New Va. Poll(Skewed Suffolk Poll; See Internals)
WaPo ^ | October 6, 2008 | Tim Craig

Posted on 10/06/2008 3:27:27 PM PDT by Red Steel

A new poll by Suffolk University shows Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) with a double-digit lead over GOP nominee John McCain in Virginia.

Obama draws 51 percent to McCain's 39 percent, although the poll's sample skews heavily toward the Democrats, which may be inflating Obama's margin.

"Barack Obama has built a coalition of suburban DC area progressives from the north, African-American voters from the south, and young voters statewide," said David Paleologos, director of the Political Research Center at Suffolk University in Boston. "That broad-based support suggests a 44-year Republican run in the Old Dominion State, dating back to Lyndon Johnson's victory in 1964, is in jeopardy."

The poll conflicts with one last week by Mason Dixon that showed McCain leading Obama by 3 points in Virginia.

I think everyone on Free Republic should immediately start referring to all polls as “skews”.

Look, there is no reason to post poll internals any longer. WE all know that america is 63% democrat 24% independent and 13% republican.

Any victory on our part is due to voter suppression. /sarc off

That poll is really horrible. I’m surprised anyone is running with it. It is clearly one of those in the tank polls.

I am going to gleefully wait for 48 hrs before the election when all of a sudden the driveby polls would, for no apparent reason, suddenly “tighten”. That’s when the truth will emerge.

OPINION:

Some voters are D voters and that’s that.
Then there are the brain-dead O-bots.
There are the clueless voters that will
vote whatever the lame-stream media
tells them to vote.
ACORN.
Then there is allegedly dead guys and
probably dogs (alive and dead) on the
voter rolls.
There is voter resigistration in the most
unusual places.
There is absentee ballot procedures found
on some very interesting web sites.

So, it’s not really the polls I’m all that concerned with.

SurveyUSA played the same game. They had a D+9 Partisan ID.

In 2006, about as bad as you can get, the Republicans still maintained a +3 Partisan ID advantage.

a 2pt lead in a poll with a 14pt rat advantage in a state where the GOP traditionally out draws the rats....

this could be more than just a skewed poll....it could be the media setting the stage for the racism charge if hussien loses in November....

“Democrat ( 1/110) 269 45%
Republican 188 31%
Independent/Unaffiliated/Other 141 24% “

51% to 39% would mean that if Obama got every Dem, and McCain got every Rep, McCain is leading among independents by 4 to 3 margin.

What’s VAs real Dem/Repub split?

Virginia doesn't register voters by party.

But in 2006, it was 39% R 36% D

In 2004 it was 39% R 30% D

Yes sir, another propaganda poll. 2004 party identity turned out equal, 2008 poll, democrats outnumber republicans by 14%.

Pass this video around, it will doom Obama.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8QcpdUtxNQ

How about Obama openly campaigning for his communist cousin Odinga who signed a pact with Muslims to enact Sharia Law if elected and started riots when he lost. Obama campaigned for an openly Anti-American candidate in a foreign country in 2006 at taxpayer expense.

What about the 18% African-American number? Nationally it’s 12-13% though perhaps VA has a much greater representation. Any fudging of this number is significant since that demographic is fairly homogenous in it’s support for BHO.

I dont think voter ID is much worse than 2006, but even if you go with R dropoff of 3pts since 2006, that’s even registration and means with indie leads for McCain and more solid base that he is ahead by about 2 pts, if you correct this skewed poll.
