I had an experience wearing a headscarf last week that was culturally and politically interesting. More on that in a minute. It made me think of Michelle Obama.
Last year, Mrs. Obama introduced her husband at a campaign event in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Like so many of Mrs. Obama's speeches, this one reflected a jaundiced view of her country. She began by telling the crowd that her husband was "special." Nothing very unusual there. But then she offered a glimpse (she said) into their private discussions prior to his run for the White House: We talked about it and asked people what they were concerned about and it was fear. They were afraid. "It was fear raising its ugly head. Fear in one of the most important decisions we would make. It was fear of everything. Fear that we might lose. Fear that he might get hurt. Fear that this would be ugly. Fear that it would hurt our family. Fear."
Now it isn't crazy for a wife to fear for her husband's safety when he runs for political office. Rumor has it that Alma Powell discouraged Colin Powell from running for president out of similar concerns. But Michelle Obama was not talking just about the crazed gunman who might be lurking in a crowd somewhere.
"But you know the reason I said yes?" she continued. "I am tired of living in a country where every decision we've made over the last 10 years wasn't for something -- but it was because people told us we had to fear something. We had to fear people who look different from us, fear people who believed in things that were different from us. I am so tired of fear and I don't want my girls to live

Ah, shut up.
My God, but she's a bore.
Yeah, that'll go over like wet cement. Telling that to decent people in Iowa who never hurt a fly.
Urban paranoia won't play in Peoria.
What the heck is she fearful of? She’s led, by most standards, a coddled existence, Ivy League education and employment that most of us would consider sinecures. And yet all she does is bitch and moan. It must get awful tiresome carrying that humungous chip around all the time.
“every decision we’ve made over the last 10 years...”
She’s including Clinton in her timeline.
I think she really meant to say “Every decision we’ve made over the last 232 years.”
She’s speaking code that we should be more “tolerant” of terrorists, because we only “fear” them because they “look different”. See, it’s we who are to blame, not the terrorists. Plus she’s trying to induce sub-conscious guilt in people for being careful-she would say “paranoid”-over the groups from whom the terrorists have largely come. Just some more groundwork for the Muslim/black/Marxist liberation theology. Whichever, they all want to destroy America.
Then do us all a favor, Michelle and go live somewhere else.
Love aunt Esther.
People who don't want to work hard, who want to graduate from school and go right into a job at the top of any business, who FEEL their way through life instead of thinking, really, really FEEEEEL that this is all the truth--if we could just get rid of our silly preconceptions, we could all just sit down, have some good Starbucks coffee, and TALK all our troubles away. The terrorists love their children too, ya know, and really, they don't hate US, they hate Bush and Cheney. And if the women of the world could just sit on comfy chairs and dish, by the end of the day we'd all be accepting of each other, and no one would ever die, ever, from a handgun or a terrorist attack.
That's the mindset that Michelle Obama is trying to appeal to.
“I am tired of living in a country where every decision we’ve made over the last 10 years wasn’t for something — but it was because people told us we had to fear something.”
She is accurately describing how the Democrats go about their shennanegins. The Dems talk about fear every day and try to scare every day people into voting for them. Hey Michelle, you are talking about your own people.
You know, this could really be true: she really could be terrified or life. Think about it: she’s been fed that radical hatred all her life. She may actually believe it.
She certainly looks like someone who lives in angst. That poor woman.
Well, my Fearful Vision is that 0bama and his wife will sit in the WhiteHouse as potus and first lady.
They have sure buried the hag over the past few weeks, haven’t they? Mona Charen is referring to her remarks in 2007! It is truly unfortunate she’s not out on the stump campaigning for her husband because they would be crushed by the landslide.
And my deepest and darkest (heh, heh!) fear is that this couple will inhabit the White House.
“Think about it: shes been fed that radical hatred all her life. She may actually believe it.”
Oh, I believe it. Every time you see the woman, you can tell she is just seething with hatred. You can see it in her face.
Michelle needs Jesus Christ.
Reverend Wright's kind... the Bill Ayers/Bernadette Dohrn kind... a hatred that demands the collapse of our nation.
Since she’s tired of living in a country where little or nothing pleases her, doesn’t she leave? Maybe Kenya or Cuba would suit her better. Oh, wait, if Obama wins, he’ll fix things so we’ll be just like Kenya and Cuba in no time. And with his youth squads marching around, chanting adoration to the Great One, it’ll be Nazi Germany redux before you know it.
