McCain blew telling the truth about the CRA,Fannie Mae, Frank and Dodd ad allowed the Big Lie to become the truth.
He blew the economic debate, the dominant issue.
Obama had no answers, or only vague answers. He had a stupid answer for what to do in Afghanistan. McCain had an obviously sensible one: The new sheriff in town is Gen. Petraeus, and he's good at what he does.
I banished all consecutive thought and listened (radio) with my child's ear for my instinctive response: Obama has a nice voice. Obama ignoring or side-stepping McCain's accusations was smooth and effective the first time. The second time it was a little disquieting. (I found myself saying, "Didn't he hear what that other guy said about him? . . .") The third time, the mask was down: He's not answering because he can't. "These are serious charges the old guy is making. If Obama can't answer, it could be because he's a crook. . ."
I don't know what the audience's immediate response was, but if ads build on these things, plus Obama's consistent opposition to drillingwhich he's trying to cover up nowit won't matter. Obama has no answers.
P.S. I agree with whoever thought that McCain's offer to buy everyone's house was over-the-top.
There are consequences when you nominate the party maverick to be your standard bearer.
John McCain did what he was supposed to do tonight, he exuded confidence in people who like my oldest son was a big time Obama fan until the Wall Street fiasco made him think twice about wanting some experienced person leading this country.
Now is not the time to be letting some unproven person sit heading this great country.
This is not a “National Review” response but a blog entry - the entire post is misleading. That said, I agree with you - McCain is less of a man than Sarah Palin and just can’t seem to bring himself to “tell it like it is.” That could cost us the election.
Screw yourself stupid dumb ass! the election is between a moderate Republican and Lucifer! Does it take more than one brain cell to figure this one out?!
Now is not the time to press the panic button. If you take out the secret sauce in recent polls, +5% - +10% Dem weightings, the race is tied nationally and in Battleground states.
This election will come down to turnout and it’s obvious the MSM is doing their best to depress the Repub base. I gotta admit, though, that McCain ain’t helping.
This race was over back in February.
At least that shrew Hillary is out of the race. That means something to me, and should for all of us.
McCain has no base, and nothing has changed or is likely to soon concerning that.
We are all losers here.
It's true. I really think that our candidate takes campaign advice from the corporate media. "He can't go negative!" "Ayers? Who cares!" "That'll turn off the undecided voters!" "(fill in the blank) might be construed as racist!" "Etc.!" He faces an opponent who is obviously, flagrantly ignorant of any and all relevant topics and doesn't even try to build off of that huge advantage. This Entire campaign has frustrated the hell out of me. Mister nice guy will not win against an agressive, well funded, well organized campaign.
Obama's a nobody. His sponsors and associates are the key to identifying him, and thus allowing us to paste a target on him. But they're off limits! The most bizarre premises are foisted by the "moderator",and they're accepted! Joe Lieberman,a democrat, tells the press what McCain's rules will be, and the outcome is assured. What's going on here? We're watching a leninist takeover of the United States Government occuring, and can't think of anything but weak talking points to prevent this. Are we throwing this thing or what? Do we want to win? What are we afraid of?
Wake up McCain is not the commie, Odinga Backing, scum Obama is.
Once enough of the epole keep getting the facts on Barry Husseini, He will be toast.
The debate is for TV the truth is for the citizens on voting day!
McCain did okay tonight (as well as an unbalance, non-conservative can that is). He debated respectfully, made some good digs at Barry and set the table for continued bomb lobs from his VP candidate. If he had been any more forceful, he would have come off as panicked. There is no need to panick . . . yet.
You know, I think are a troll, you are always posting sh** from left wing sites and being negative on any thread.McCain won tonight, going away. Take your negative post shove it as far as I am concerned. I am voting for McCain/Palin and we will win in a landslide. Don’t believe it? I don’t care what you believe, but it will happen.
“Genial John” McCain is a wuss. He ran for President as an ego thing. He really doesn’t care that much about winning because when he loses, he will go back to the Senate and work with his “friends across the aisle” pushing for bi-partisan legislation that the Dems like. And the media will once again be his friend and he will bask in his increased place in history as a guy who got the party’s nomination. In other words, he will be another Bob Dole.
Maybe he was an American hero in the Vietnam War, but in this culture war, he is the guy who caused us to lose perhaps the most decisive battle because he didn’t have enough heart and gumption to fight. He sold us out. What a legacy!
My 2 cents?
Debates only matter
1)- to the chattering classes of talking heads, who use them to promote more chatter
2)- if one of the parties makes a big enough impression, good or bad, to be remembered days or weeks later...
The only “debate” ( or poll ) that counts is Election Day.
On that day, the “swing voters”— the bleeding idiots who just can’t make up their feeble little minds- pick the last candidate who made the best impression on them...
...and that is what decides elections.
Yes, we are in the hands of fools, ond dupes.
Look at Washington...
A conservative candidate with a set of balls and the guts to use them.
So, you’re voting Obama?
"Let's be honest"
"In reality"
"Everybody knows"
All these (and similar phrases) tell me one thing:
The speaker is trying to sell be a big, stinking load of bullshit.
I’m no Rudyist, but hearing the stream of platitudes last night, nearly indistinguishable between the two supposedly competing candidates, I tried to imagine if Rudy were debating Zero, knocking that fool off his marxist pedestal, hitting him on ACORN and the terrorist connections.
Anyone bashing McCain at this point is helping Obama.
