How did Newsweek get Sarah Palin to pose with a rifle?

How did Newsweek convince Gov. Sarah Palin to pose with a rifle for its cover?
Simple. It didn't.
Instead, it used an archive (fancy speak for old) stock photo of her taken back in June 2002 and used it for the cover without her knowledge.
However, to the magazine's credit, it did not try to hide the fact that it's a stock photo, even printing circa 2002 on the cover and again referencing the date in editor Jon Meacham's letter entitled "The Palin Problem."
So that makes it OK.
Right? Or maybe not? What do you think?
Hey, is that even the right way to hold a rifle? Can't you shoot your foot off like that?
Just wondering.

I’m no firearms expert, but I’m pretty sure you can’t fire a shotgun when it’s open.
This whole blog amounts to little more than, “Guns, ewww.”

Oh for crying out loud...”Hey, is that even the right way to hold a rifle? Can’t you shoot your foot off like that?”
A) If you have been shooting with an over and under you know GD good and well that when you crack it open and you are walking back in from hunting, or shooting clays, a lot folks hold it that way — and besides dufus — it isn’t a rifle, it’s a “F’n” shotgun...
B) You are an idiot...clearly you have never shot an over and under when it is cracked open it can’t be fired.
LA Times...really?!? What a moron.

Liz, that’s not a rifle! It’s a Super Soaker that shoots pure Alaskan frozen glacier water. I demand a correction in the next issue. (Get the name right. It’s RWA.)
C’mon, get your facts straight. That’s why us gun huggers have lost all respect for you folks. Can’t tell a BB gun from a bow and arrow.

If that’s a rifle, I am NOT pulling the trigger. I sent 45 rounds of 10 gage 3 1/2 magnum after geese and ducks in one day, but I am NOT shooting any rifle shell that big.

1st, it’s a shotgun, double barrel. 2nd, it’s “broken” meaning the firing mechanism is physically separated from the shells, it cannot be fired and is perfectly safe. This is the legal and preferred way to carry this weapon in the field, especially in slippery terrain or when climbing over all those damn stone walls in North Central PA (Bradford Cnty)
