A New Ice Age? (Will even Gore face the evidence?)*
American Conservative Union Foundation ^ | Issue 117 - October 9, 2008 | Alan Caruba

There’s a wonderful irony in the fact that, back in the 1970s, the Greens were issuing warnings and even writing books about the coming Ice Age. They would abandon this issue, based in well-known and accepted solar science, in favor of a vast international hoax alleging man-made global warming.

As the global warming hoax begins to lose its power to influence public opinion and policy, the Greens are not likely to be heeded for a long time to come because they were right about an Ice Age and lying through their teeth about global warming.

Scientists and laymen who follow the Ice Age cycles have been warning that, if not a full-fledged Ice Age, at the very least a Little Ice Age comparable to one that lasted from 1300 to around 1850 is on its way

Amidst all the media coverage of Hurricane Gustav and the Republican Convention, a report in DailyTech.com was not likely to get much attention, but it forecast a very cold world in the years to come. The Earth has already started to cool and scientists date the change from 1998.

Headlined, “Drop in solar activity has potential effect for climate on Earth”, the news is that, for the first time in 100 years, “an entire month has passed without a single visible sunspot being noted.” The author, Michael Asher, noted that “The event is significant as many climatologists now believe solar magnetic activity—which determines the number of sunspots—is an influencing factor for climate on Earth.”

My friend, Robert W. Felix, wrote an excellent book on this titled “Not by Fire, but by Ice” ($15.00, Sugarhouse Publishing, softcover, second edition) which can be purchased from his website at IceAgeNow.com.

“We’re beginning to realize that Earth is a violent and dangerous place to live,” wrote Felix. “We’re beginning to realize that mass extinctions have been the rule, rather than the exception, for the 3.5 billion years that life has existed on Earth.”

Felix has a new book soon to be published that addresses magnetic reversals, another cyclical factor affecting life on Earth. “During the last 4.5 million years, at least six out of nine radiolarian extinctions occurred at magnetic reversals.” They appear to be a factor in the sudden emergence of new species so Darwin’s theory is likely to be reexamined.

As the DailyTech report notes, “In the past 1000 years, three previous such events, the Dalton, Maunder, and Sporer Minimums,” of reduced sunspot activity, “have all led to rapid cooling,” adding that, “For a society dependent on agriculture, cold is more damaging than heat. The growing season shortens, yields drop, and the occurrence of crop-destroying frosts increases.”

An article by William Livingston and Matthew Penn of the National Solar Observatory in Tucson, Arizona, “Sunspots May Vanish by 2015”, predicts that sunspots will disappear completely. “Such an event would not be unprecedented, since during a famous episode from 1645-1715, known as the Maunder Minimum…” That solar cycle “was shown to correspond with the reduced average global temperatures on the Earth.” In other words, it’s going to get COLD.

The Little Ice Age had an effect on history as you might imagine. The French Revolution is attributed to it insofar as the cost of bread rose as wheat crops failed. Riots followed. Similarly, Napoleon’s invasion of Russia met with defeat thanks to a winter that killed thousands of his troops. In America, it was reflected in the travails of Valley Forge.

Over at IceAgeNow.com, Felix posts the latest news from around the world that tells of anomalous events ranging from freak early snow storms to expanding glaciers. Soon enough, those living in the northern hemisphere will become more aware as winters lengthen and become more severe. After that, the scenarios grow quite serious.

Even the venerable Old Farmers Almanac is making news these days forecasting a far cooler winter and suggesting that the Earth is already in a cooling cycle.

No doubt some diehard Greens like Al Gore will continue to spout nonsense that the cold weather is due to global warming, but it has to do with the Sun that’s gone quiet. It’s not myth. It’s reality.

I’m going to get in on the solar credits scam at the start.

Wouldn’t it be funny if the solution to stop global cooling was to burn fossil fuels?

Problem with that is...CO2 does not cause global warming.

they were right about an Ice Age and lying through their teeth about global warming.

No they weren't. Don't give those idiots credit.

They called for an ice age in the 70s based on a slight decrease in temperatures that lasted a few years. Their theory was that man's pollution blocked the sun's rays and cooled the earth. It was inspired by the theory that the dinosaurs were killed off by a meteor that raised dust that covered the sun and cooled the earth.

Then, in the early 80s, temperatures started to rise, slightly. They revised their theory to claim that man's pollution was responsible for the rise, by holding earth's heat in, or magnifying the rays of the sun, or whatever stupid theory they could think of. Whatever it was, they didn't think to blame it on the SUN.

In recent years, the sun has entered a sunspot cycle that is consistent with the start of a cooling period, such as we had in the Little Ice Age. So, we may have a cooling, but that does not mean that the Greens were right in the 70s. They were wrong about cooling occurring then (it was warming) and they were wrong about the cause (the sun, not human emissions).

They are idiots who want to destroy capitalism due to a simplistic, childish desire to return the mother earth to a pre-industrial state (killing off 90 percent of humans in the process), and should be given no credence about anything.

We’ve been in an ice age for the 4 million years.

On average the temperatures are about 6 to 10 degrees C below normal.

The last glaciation started about 60,000 years ago and ended about 10,000 years ago.

The next glaciation is due about now (give or take a few thousand years).

“Actually, the greenbats have figured it out enough to begin calling it “Global Climate Change” instead of global warming. Now they can have it both ways. Pretty clever.”

No, only if you’re stupid enough to buy their groupthink. It has to be _anthropogenic_ climate change. Otherwise, it’s Nature and inherently to be worshiped. ;-)

Once it’s clear that global cooling is a reality, the public will realize the entire global warming campaign is a hoax. Long-range climate forecasting will be discredited for the foreseeable future. Al Gore will be a laughingstock.

One hopes the famines won’t be too severe. BTW, increased CO2 content is great for plant growth, supposedly right now human CO2 contribution is causing 30% faster plant growth than normal. We’ll need it with the short growing seasons.

Some think it is the solution.

http://www.soton.ac.uk/mediacentre/news/2007/aug/07_100.shtml

"Humanity has to date burnt about 300 Gt C of fossil fuels. This work suggests that even if only 1000 Gt C (gigatonnes of carbon) are eventually burnt (out of total reserves of about 4000 Gt C) then it is likely that the next ice age will be skipped. Burning all recoverable fossil fuels could lead to avoidance of the next five ice ages." (Dr Toby Tyrrell of the University of Southampton's School of Ocean and Earth Science at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton.)

Water vapor is the +90%, temperature regulating “Greenhouse gas” (not a true gas at all, of course...it’s water)

Yes.

Shovelers of leftist horseh$hit in general scurry like so many cockroaches when the kitchen light goes on, under the scrutiny of accountability, solid common sense or normal market forces.

Bottomline: Whatever it is that you’re doing, is wrong, and the Greens want you to stop it.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Here is what the greens want you to do. Take off all your clothing and dispose of it in a non-polluting manner, don’t ask me I don’t know how either, lie down and die in an area where your body will be consumed by wild animals or fall in a stream known to harbor alligators and drown yourself. Do this and they will cease to harass you.

I’ve been telling this to folks for a while.

Global warming - some of the large metropolitan coastal cities flood - Gondola manufacturers go into overdrive

Global cooling - tens of millions of acres of the most productive cropland in the world turn into permafrost - literally billions of people starve - no gondolas needed.

There ya go!

Saw a great program on PBS the other night, about "Arctic Dinosaurs". There were scientists up on the North Slope who were digging out bones of really sizable dinos, and they pointed out that the North Slope was way closer to the North Pole in the time frame involved.

There were leaf fossils that strongly suggested that the summer climate of that area is about what Juneau has currently. Of course, the winters would have been bitter cold, but those summers had some pleasant temperatures. Obviously, none of that warming was human caused, but clearly reflected completely natural phenomena.

And the continents have been moving.

65 million years ago there would’ve been no ice on earth. It was too warm.

Normally earth has no ice at the poles. It’s just cooler now.

The thing we need to work on is a way to use a fairly limitless source of energy (solar or nuclear, using fusionable materials from the moon) to convert rising oceans into oxygen and hydrogen. The sediments could be used to fill abandoned mines, and perhaps tapped out oil fields.

Of course, when the planet starts cooling again, we'd have a fresh problem, but we'd come up with technology to deal with it by then, too.

We aleady did.

By using fission breeder reactors we could create nearly limitless energy very cheaply.

We’ve already mined enough uranium to keep us going far into the future.

We could just keep reprocessing the material like they do in France.
