20% down for average to good credit rating, 10% down for excellent credit rating. Sliding scale between the two. Must be employed, and payments, including property taxes, must be no more than 28% of gross income (wages, tips, salaries, etc - welfare and food stamps are NOT acceptable income). Mortgage insurance required with less than those down-payment amounts.

No mortgage or combination of loans secured by the property may total more than 95% of the property's market value, which will be the smaller of 1 - selling price of similar homes in the nearby area, or 2 - the appraised value of the home as agreed upon by the local taxing jurisdiction and a certified appraising agency.

“Could this work?”

No, throw the property squatters out in the street!

A home isn't a right, it's a privilege to be paid for and not by government!

Well their job is to represent their constituents, but unfortunately very few if any do represent them any more.

No kidding. Term limits are looking better to me all the time. We need to get rid of lots of these career politicians, and get some new blood in there that might actually start representing the citizens.

But McCain has Carly Fiorina to advise him. (barf)

Lou Dobbs would be a better choice. Or maybe Malcolm Forbes, depending on what he says on the talk show today.

And we saw what a great job she [Carly Fiorina] did at Hewlett Packard.

And what she did to Lucent (potentially one of the most innovative companies in the world) before that.

Fiorina is a looser. In that respect, I suppose it's logical that she would be one of McCain's top advisers.

I did send this idea along to the campaign, but whether or not someone will read it and pass it up the chain of command is another story. Maybe we should start calling into all the talk shows this week to demand vouchers for low cost home loans for our troops be a part of the bailout package. After all, any money set aside for that is less money government has to do mischief with!

Or maybe McCain should try this...

“Vote for McCain/Palin and we guarantee that the moonbats and minorities will burn down large swathes of American cities thereby removing many abodes from the marketplace and shoring up the real estate market. We can then start the campaign to relocate the socialists in the cities to suburban and rural parts of America where their reeducation in the joys of personal responsibility can commence in earnest.”

What part of qualify for a fixes interest loan do you not understand? If they can make the payments then they are not squatters. Do you just want to punish people is that what being a conservative means to you?

If this property is not occupied and the bad loans removed from the bank’s books then the problem will not be cleared up.

Obama’s idea will be to give the money to ACORN which will make the payments for the defaulted homes (after getting their cut of course).

” I have one:

If home values are declining, why are my property taxes still going up? And why does the state not down value my home?

Make it a law that if a home has been devalued, property taxes are adjusted accordingly. “

Agree.

Also add in that foreclosed sales should count towards declining home values as it relates to property taxes.

Believe it or not, in Florida ( Martin County ) they dont...

Sure that lower sales price counts against you when you go to sell your home as the new “ market value “ of recent sales, but it doesn’t apply for the tax side.

This needs to be corrected.

You asked me a question. I pointed to you evidence why McCain is clueless.

You can choose to agree or disagree with it. If you want to keep your head in the clouds, that’s fine by me. Nothing I’m going to say is going to change your mind.

Well .. it’s a FACT that John put forth legislation in 2006 over the economic mess that might be caused by a failure of Fanny Mae or Freedie Mac.

I don’t exactly see John as “clueless”.

But .. the democrats (not Bush) shot it down. And .. they shot it down because Frank, Schumer, Dodd and other democrats were getting huge benefits from the mess they were creating.

I put $185,000 down on my house and have watched the equity disappear. I would probably owe money for settlement costs if I could even sell my house. (Live in Florida) Why are just the losers that put nothing down going to get help?? Why do I have to pay more taxes to help them when I’ve all ready lost alot?? Taxes....My property taxes went from $2,800 (previous ovner) to $6,000 when I bought the house. My house is now worth what the previous owner paid for it, but my taxes only went down $150. Crooks, Criminals, and greedy government officials. Time for a revolt!!

Real Estate taxes are decided by the county, city, schools, etc. I don’t see where the federal government has the authority to tell a county how much to charge in property taxes.

Being in home sales, I’ve always told people to finance all they could and not put money in the home. The days of buying a home and reselling it for a huge profit ended years ago.
