Project Vote' Brings Power to the People - Obama
Chicago Sun-Times - Archives ^ | 8/11/1992 | Vernon Jarrett

Good news! Good news! Project Vote, a collectivity of 10 church-based community organizations dedicated to black voter registration, is off and running. Project Vote is increasing its rolls at a 7,000-per-week clip. Just last Saturday it registered 2,000 during the Chicago Defender's annual Bud Billiken Parade. But now, the not-so-good news: If Project Vote is to reach its goal of registering 150,000 out of an estimated 400,000 unregistered blacks statewide, "it must average 10,000 rather than 7,000 every week," says Barack Obama, the program's executive director. The current drive will end Oct. 5, the last day for registration for the Nov. 3 general elections. "Our biggest problem is the young, the 18 to 35 group," said Obama, 31, the first African American to serve as president of the prestigious Harvard Law Review. "There's a lot of talk about `black power' among the young but so little action." During the 1982 preparation for the 1983 victories of the late Mayor Harold Washington, a similar drive waved the slogan "Come Alive by October 5." The current drive's new banner is "It's a Power Thing," which is loaded with logic. "Today, we see hundreds of young blacks talking `black power' and wearing Malcolm X T-shirts," Obama explained, "but they don't bother to register and vote. We remind them that Malcolm once made a speech titled `The Ballot or the Bullet,' and that today we've got enough bullets in the streets but not enough ballots." The best news from Obama is that Project Vote, which has the financial backing of Soft Sheen hair-care magnate Edward Gardner, may become a permanent, year-round program based on: Ongoing community "accountability sessions" that include surveillance of black as well as other elected officials. Continuous voter education on crucial issues facing the City Council, the state legislature and the U.S. Congress - broken down in laymen's language understandable at the grass-roots level. "All our people must know that politics and voting affects their lives directly," Obama said. "If we're registering people in public housing, for an example, we talk about aid cuts and who's responsible." Constructive channels for people to vent their concerns. Rioting, arson and neighborhood destruction may dramatize black despair, but they don't solve problems. Obama, whose late father was from Kenya, notes that many of his African relatives live in a one-party state and therefore look at American blacks with envy. "They can't understand why we don't relish the opportunity to vote for whomever we please." The leaders of Project Vote want it understood that "we are non-partisan" and encourage "educated political judgment" rather than following a "straight ticket" party line. And that announcement in itself is good news. Vernon Jarrett is a member of the Chicago Sun-Times editorial board. Copyright 1992 Chicago Sun-Times

But, isn't a one-party state the objective?

Old Vernon must've been smoking some Grade A Wacky Weed when he wrote that...as everyone obviously knows Project Vote is not targeted at people who routinely vote for the GOP. In fact, 'Republican' is an expletive.

Why isn’t anyone driving the message home that there are people trying to steal this election. This is probably the most important issue out there. If we can’t stop this then we lose everything. Many before us gave their lives so we can vote, we owe it to them and to those who come after us to stop this attempt to overthrow our government.

If anyone has information where we should write or how we can help, please post.

We know all about your voter registration shill.

In Vegas, Acorn registered the entire Dallas Cowboys Football team.

We do know what Project vote is about. Its purpose is to steal the election from AMerica.

Your socialist leaders are desperate for power.

And they mean to win at ANY cost.

Well everyone will pay the banana republic price, when the violence and rioting starts over the elections result, just like Obama helped to bring about in Kenya in 2006/2007.

We know your true faces.

And you ALL should be put in jail.

Project Vote and ACORN Announce Completion of Historic Voter Registration Drive: Over 1.3 million new low-income, minority, and young Americans registered nationwide

Front group for the radical cult ACORN
Spearheads the Voting Rights Movement
Played a decisive role in pushing the 1993 Motor-Voter Bill through Congress

Project Vote is the voter-mobilization arm of ACORN. It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose professed purpose is to carry out “non-partisan” voter registration drives; to counsel voters on their rights; and to litigate on behalf of voting rights — focusing on the rights of the poor and the “disenfranchised.”

In 1996, Project Vote became involved in Teamstergate — a criminal conspiracy to embezzle funds from the Teamster treasury, launder them through outside organizations, and then siphon them back into the re-election war chest of Teamsters President Ron Carey in 1996. According to trial testimony, the operation was approved by high-level White House and Democratic Party officials.

A persistent pattern of lawlessness has followed ACORN/Project Vote activists over the years. For example, one Project Vote contractor — a single mother of three — forged 400 voter registration cards in 1998. “Some of the addresses listed on these applications were traced to vacant lots, boarded-up buildings, abandoned buildings, and nonexistent house numbers,” notes a report by the Employment Policies Institute. Former Miami-Dade field director for ACORN’s 2004 voter mobilization Mac Stuart has testified that fraud is standard procedure for ACORN/Project Vote canvassers — behavior that is not only tolerated but encouraged by supervisors. “[T]he voter registration project has been operating illegally since it started,” Stuart told investigators.

It’s truly amazing that the “non-partisan” Sun Times and Obama haven’t succeeded in scrubbing this article from the Archives. Doesn’t say too much for the competency he’d bring to 1600, does it?

With all of the “scrubbing” going on of the man child’s records it’s a wonder that the “0” man’s campaign staff and their presstitute cohorts aren’t nicknamed “the janitors.”

"All our people must know that politics and voting affects their lives directly," Obama said. "If we're registering people in public housing, for an example, we talk about aid cuts and who's responsible."

Golly, how do you talk politics and point fingers if you're conducting a "non-partisan" voter registration drive for a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization? /sarc
