It never ends. There’s always some codeword for restricting the freedom of the masses in order for the beknighted to save us.

It’s too bad words like “diversity” and “sustainability” are used as tools of government intervention and force by the left and sell outs on the right. Fundamentally there is nothing wrong with said words and they are actually a good thing.

Why isn’t the rationale of ‘sustainability’ ever applied to something with clear, real world consequences — like whether Medicare and Social Security are ‘sustainable.’

The easy counter to the “sustainability” argument is that socialism is inherently unstable and inefficient, and thus is unsustainable.

It is unable to provide what it promises, and continually demands more resources to provide less functionality. In addition, socialists seem to lack pattern recognition, treating the failure of socialism with pseudo-religious denial instead of objectively revising failed theory.

Ironically, socialism matters more to socialists than solving any problem. In fact, they demonstrate indifference and even hostility to any means of reform, repair, or improvement that does not conform to their doctrines.

As such, socialism is almost the very definition of “unsustainable.”

“Sustainability:” keeping small builders from competing with big developers. I know of environmentalist front women who’ve worked directly for such developers and then indirectly in local politics.

What might "education for a sustainable society" look like? In 2006, Keith Edwards of Macalester and Kathleen Kerr of the University of Delaware outlined their vision at a national conference.

It's a myth that sustainability is "mostly about the environment," they assured their audience. Its reach extends to issues ranging from "environmental racism" and "domestic partnerships" to "gender equity" and "fair trade."

Macalester. Why are we not surprised?

The correct definition of sustainable has to be botched to fit the false doctrines of the day.

Trees are the greatest sustainable resource for building materials and the rules to make a house green involves using less trees. Environmentalists disapprove of the Sustainable Forest Initiative.
