Obama supporters fear race may bring candidate down

For supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama it is a nightmare scenario -- his apparent lead in the battle for the White House suddenly evaporates on Election Day. The cause? Race.

As Republican rival John McCain celebrates victory, it emerges that a small but decisive percentage of white voters who had declared to opinion pollsters they supported Obama actually chose differently in the privacy of the ballot booth.

With opinion surveys making Obama the favorite over McCain less than three weeks before the November 4 election, attention has turned to the question of how many white Americans might be lying to pollsters about their willingness to vote for a black president.

The phenomenon is known as the "Bradley effect," after Tom Bradley, an African American who narrowly lost the 1982 California governor's election despite leading in polls.

His defeat surprised observers who concluded many white voters had not been honest about their intentions. Ever since, pollsters have tried to factor in the Bradley effect in elections featuring black candidates.

Those concerns weighed heavily on John Estep as he canvassed for Obama last week in the mainly white town of St. Bernard, Ohio, where he was once mayor.

"They will say in a poll, or say on the porch, 'I'll vote for Obama.' But I question how many will stick with a person of color when they pull that (voting booth) curtain," said Estep.

My middle schoolers have already had black students talking about “Whitey needs killin’”

These are the days when I'm glad I homeschool.

I don't care what race he is.

He's a socialist. He's arrogant, inexperienced and appears to have quite a nasty agenda.

I wouldn't vote for him if he were as white as a new-fallen snow.

i suppose this means that whites are racist until proven otherwize, while blacks are exempt from accusations of racism.

"You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means...."

I am so sick and tired of this "meme"!

John McCain has picked a female VP, have you read even one story about that?

Just because I am not voting for a black man this time does not mean I haven't in the past (I have) or won't in the future.

Where were these stories when Lynn Swann was running in PA? Maybe that's why he lost?

Guys, we’re seeing one of these a day. That tells me that THEY know these polls are as bogus as we think they are.

Buoyed by encouraging poll numbers -- today's ABC News/Washington Post poll has Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., beating Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz, 53% to 43% -- lots of Obama backers out there seem to think this thing is over. ...That's not what lots of smart folks in the Obama campaign think. They believe Obama's poll numbers are artificially high, McCain's are artificially low, this race will come down to two or three points, and anything could happen.

OMG...”I was listening to a clip from Howard Stern where he interviewed blacks on the street.”

My son was trying to describe something he heard from “some guy” on the radio.

The guy asked several people in New York questions and one of the questions was;

What does Liquidity mean — and the young girl replied, “the name of one of the girls at my high school...I don’t know.”

I kept saying Sean Hannity, Rush, Chris...and he kept saying no, no, the only other person I could think of was IMUS and I didn’t think there was anyway he was going near something as radioactive as that...

Okay, now it understand.

It was Howard Stern...geeeezzzz...

“May” keep your kids home?

Oh, BTW, if you have a place in the country, you might consider erecting racist anti-Obama signs in front of your house; they’ll torch it and you can collect the insurance to pay off the house in the country! Ya’ gotta start thinking outside the box!

It’s race that will bring him down — it’s his radical alliances.

The cause? Race.

Must be that. Every white American wants socialized medicine for all, an economic policy that will bring about a depression, their votes to be overwhelmed with fraudulent votes, a socialist for president, to lose the war on terror, a president who hangs with people that bomb buildings and kill innocents,.....

It’s still a white man’s world but if he is a conservative and patriotic he might win.

The MAIN job of the POTUS is; To protect the United States and it's constitution against ALL threats, foreign and domestic.

Mr Hussein Obama’s stance on foreign relations is to meet with leaders of nations that present a danger to the United States and the world WITHOUT PRECONDITIONS. This represents a fairytale mentality of an immature, inexperienced dolt.

Mr Hussein Obama’s proved relationships with Domestic Terrorists, Hate America Preachers, and Socialists create a doubt about his ability and most importantly his WILLINGNESS to defend the United States from Domestic Terrorists.

Now, if MY view is racist, and to those that say it is I say, I don't hear you and your ridiculous assertions. And don't come to my property or physically confront me or my family members; cause I HAVE SOMETHING FOR YOU!!!!!

This is their excuse for "blood in the streets".

Considering how "blood in the streets" led to Obama's cousin gaining power in Kenya, I would not be surprised if "Plan B" involves "civil unrest" which will only be appeased by billion dollar grants for ACORN and other groups (which will allow them to steal the next elections).

I'm also not going to be surprised if "dirty tricks" are planned to suppress voting in Republican areas, and discourage Republicans from going to the polls in Dem areas.

I’ll be voting against the half white heritage of Hussein. That should take care of the racist angle of voting.

I like your spin. (smile)

“I think the American people will pick McCain in a landslide when all is said and done and we won’t even have to talk about the race issue. We will be talking about the rejection of fascism.”

From your lips to God’s ear.

We need a new law that requires affirmative action in elections. A certain percentage (say 20%) of the population should be required to vote for minority candidates.

How else will we ever overcome our corporate racism and expunge ouyr corporate guilt.

This required affirmative action voting (RAAV) will be administered by ACORN.

Oh wait, they’re already doing that illegally. We’ll just legalize their efforts and pay them more for all that they do.

Yes, that whitey Mom and grandparents! The indoctrination that Barry so eagerly pursued with the help of many Marxists along the way, is Anti-American and white in origin.
