McCain was first-class. Obviously in his element.

Obama’s address, it seemed to me, had a bit of a hard, even mean, edge to it.

Pretty hard for someone to emanate good-natured humor when the person's main interest is in his or her self.

The messiah bombed big time, although Perky Katie Couric smiled approvingly for her guy in the background.

While McCain was doing his fantastic routine, Katie looked awfully uncomfortable, particularly when McCain was roasting the media...

And that guy behind him kept stuffing bread in his mouth!

LOL! My husband and I noticed that as well...

McCain owned the stage. Barack did just fine.

Previous comments about “laughing at his own jokes” and being smug I believe are wool-covered eyes.

I hate the socialist as much as the next guy, but he was funny.

Obama wasn’t bad either, but McCain stole the show!

Agreed. McCain's writers and his deliver were definitely better. I guess he won round 4.

I never realized that Mac had such a great sense of humor.

McCain can be hysterical... like he was tonight. He's been on Saturday Night Live and the other "late night" shows over the years. I wish we had seen more of this John McCain on the campaign trail...

He takes himself way too seriously.

I agree. At this roast, he seemed a bit ill at ease -- although he did do a credible job for the charity.

Obama looked like a member of the Nation of Islam in that bow tie. He had some funny lines but looked amateurish. McCain was masterful and brilliantly funny.

In many of the accounts of the American POW’s held and tortured by the N. Vietnamese in the infamous “Hotel Hilton,” are recollections of McCain being dragged back to his cell by his torturers - but still managing, despite being tortured/beaten terribly, a grin to the other American prisoners he knew were peering through little slits in the cell doors.

That fits so well with what we saw tonight - I believe we saw something that came at least partly from as far back as those five and a half years in that N. Vietnamese hell hole...

Al-baby .. you don’t want to know how much tickets to the Al Smith Dinner cost the participants. It is a fundraiser for Catholic Charities in NY and they make a bundle on it. It is not taxpayer funded.

The SS agents are on duty with the candidates 24/7 whether they are at the Waldorf Astoria, on the road, or in McCain or Obama’s back yard.

So lighten up, put your anger and envy away, and be thankful there are people who can enjoy themselves.
