Many Americans Tried to Save on Their Heating Bills and Are Now Paying the Price
This summer, like so many past years, Bob Forguites decided to buy his home heating oil early and lock in his price for the winter. Oil was selling for about $4.50 a gallon back then, and it looked as if it wasn't about to fall. Forguites locked in at $4.10 a gallon.
"It was a good price at that time," Forguites recalled.
But now with the global economy near or in a recession, oil prices have plummeted to about $3 a gallon in his area of southern Vermont. He is stuck paying $4.10 through the winter.
"In the years past, we've turned out well because of this agreement," he said. "This year is just different."

"We didn't know what was going to happen to the world economy."
Moral of the story: ignore MSM hype and ‘experts.’
Sales of wood and pellet stoves around my town are skyrocketing from what I hear.
PS - only ABC/MSM could find a ‘victim’ of drastically lower oil prices.
I guess the 200 million motorists that are saving a fortune on gas weren’t available for comment.
Gas $2.69/g for cash customers in NJ as of yesterday evening.
I’m sure a new federal program will be launched to compensate this poor victim. :)
Hey. We need another Federal Bailout Bill for the homeowners who bought their winter heating oil at too high a price!!!!!
Who else do we need to bailout?????
futures show
gas dropping to $2 gal by thanksgiving
oil should be around $2.50
The sign says $2.52 here in Indiana today, with a $.07 discount for cash it was $2.45.
44 gallon tank on my Suburban hasn’t see the full mark for a while either....
I remember some company offering a lock in on gasoline prices. I wonder how many people went for that?
oil 2.50/bbl? Nancy Pelosi, that you?
(I think you meant “gasoline”)
Has anyone done any research on Bob Forguites to see if he owes any back taxes or if he is an abc “plant?”
It’t those evil commodities futures traders Nancy Pelosi et al warned us about! They’re making the prices go down so...so...uh, never mind.
When you lock in a price, you either win or lose. No crying.
Last month my gas company offered me a lock on natural gas prices. Do natural gas prices ever go down?
Pretty much what happened to Southwest Airlines.
DUH. At that time when you locked in. You decided to lock in at that price.
Whine, whine, whine.
And this from someone who bought home heating oil when the price is a little higher than now.
If this guy goes to Paulson, the taxpayers will have to bail him out.
I stocked up on six cords of good seasoned split hardwood firewood at $125 each, delivered, last September. My heating bill for this year has been paid.
