A hip rock band that features the Soviet national anthem and communist-inspired lyrics was on stage to open for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama at his record-breaking Portland, Ore., rally that attracted 75,000.
The Decemberists, a Portland-based group with a large local following, also closed the May 18 event.
The Decemberists typically begin their concerts with a Russian-language recording of the USSR's national anthem.
A YouTube video shows the Decemberists beginning an April 31, 2007, concert at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa., with the anthem.
"Decemberists" refers to an uprising at Senate Square in St. Petersburg Dec. 14, 1825, when a group of Russian army officers led about 3,000 soldiers in protest as Nicholas I assumed the throne, after Czar Alexander died without an heir.
The Decemberists have posed for publicity photos in period Russian costumes with the red flag of the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 waving behind them.

Bencal, who sings the anthem for a number of school events and is actively involved in local community theatre, had been contacted by the Obama campaign to sing the anthem. He agreed to do so, then was told later in the evening the anthem had been scratched from the program. Bencal said he was told by the campaign the decision was a simple programming change to make room for another speaker.
“I guess it just wasn’t meant to be,” Bencal said.
Sandra Abrevaya, communications director for the Obama campaign’s Manchester office, confirmed the choice had simply been a last-minute scratch from the rally’s program, which included the Pledge of Allegiance.
“We regret the miscommunication with Zach about today’s event but we are pleased that several other New Hampshire residents were able to speak at today’s event, where thousands of voters in both parties gathered to hear Sen. Obama discuss his plan to bring the change we need to Washington.”

Once again, I’d like to say that Drudge has been VERY, VERY helpful at getting all this stuff out that the media has been trying to bury.
I love today’s big picture, with it’s McCain supports Joe the Plumber theme. I love that dog sniffing the invading camerawoman. And I love all the dirty he digs up on Obama that the media would NEVER TELL US ABOUT.
Freepers know all this stuff, but Drudge is one of the few people getting it out to Joe and Jane Everyman.

Im glad to hear that Hussien is not playing the National Anthem, or having the Pledge of Allegiance. It always sickens me to see liberal fascist trash pretending to be a Patriot. I would rather see BHO just ignore those patriotic rituals rather than disgrace my Country’s precious flag again with his hypocrisy.
From now on everyone asking questions of “The One” should just call themselves “John Galt” (or, Jill Galt).

one of the news pieces said several thousand...have you been to Mac’s Apples ? While a terrific place seasonally for ice cream or pumpkins and pies (as the case may be) you couldn’t park 35 cars there and they would have to chop down the orchards just to get 500 people a place to stand
That might work for print, but with so many cameras around these days, it will probably just delay things until your liberal friends, family and co-workers identify you and turn you in to the media.

Add in a crisis moment, which may have been manufactured for him in order to peak at a 13 week election moment—somewhere around 2 months out—and you have a kobayashi maru: that hold which has no overcoming, save by the man who will risk everything to overtake it. Only in the sacrifice of an innocent martyr who is destroyed by evil shown to be associated with the one setting up the strangehold can victory be achieved and evil vanquished.
