Were the applicable codes in effect 30 years ago? Perhaps this would be covered by “Grandfather” rules? I wonder when the previous owner converted it. It was certainly more than 30 years ago.
A search warrant, three inspectors and two cops over what is basically a civil matter. Is this a great country or what!

My story: Beautiful 2 acre lots. I had a fully functional shop, bath ,etc. When my family all left, I was sick and just about broke, I wanted to rent my house and stay in my shop....but NO WAY would the county allow that...
BUT....25 illegal aliens moved in across the street, built plywood and metal shacks all over the place, even closed in the carport to live in....
What did the county say when I complained....they said I was a racist. So I had to sell my home of 30 years and lost about $100,000. It’s difficult to move your property when gangs of ‘homies’ hang out on the street and bang on the hood of the realtors car when he’s trying to show it.
I don’t think it’s the old woman is the dingy one. And I have a light in my garage, everyone does.

I'm less than a mile up the street from her place here in La Quinta; the Code Nazis (by the way, our mayor's name is Don Adolph...so many locals are making reference to "Adolph and his Nazis") have been swarming this 'cove area' and nitpicking left and right, citing probably 70 percent of the homes with one thing or another.
The situation as you mention above isn't flying; our next door neighbor got cited for having a back yard patio cover with no permit....the cover was part of the house when he bought it a dozen years ago. Tuesday he was down at City Hall and they told him to "get an engineer to dig up and confirm proper footings and check the structural integrity, then bring that stuff back and buy a permit".
These clowns are the talk of the area, for sure.

My sentiments exactly. For 200 years they immigrated from everywhere in Europe to a FREE nation with an opportunity to become anything they were willing to work for. Generations of them in their native countries had never had the opportunity/freedom to accomplish this.
The liberal agenda of big government in order to make us all equal gives government the right to control the very air we breathe and how much air we may have. Socialism is on the very verge of being ushered in on the obfuscated socialistic agenda of the big O. God help us!
Crime against the state. There’s no victim, it’s not a nuisance nor a trespass. The woman has common law rights in her property. She needs to contact an attorney to argue her rights. This is what happens when you vote for leftists. Before the early 20th century progessives, this would have been laughed out of court. Seig heil!
