What I can’t figure out is why? He’s probably too old and too tainted by past associations to have a role in any Obama administration. Why not just keep quiet? What is Powell trying to achieve here?

No Powell does appear to want a job on the “winning” team.
He’s not doing this out of the goodness of his heart.

He does not view himself as too old to wield power.

I’m sickened by this though. On what basis does this guy who supported McCain in 2007 now turn his back on him?

Based on what record of the socialist/marxist? What?

Sadly, I think it's all about his "legacy". He had always been portrayed as the "reasonable" Republican by the MSM until his UN speech regarding the war in Iraq. It's all part of him trying to disassociate himself from that and get back into the MSM's good graces.

Its all about the Benjamins. Powell's current gig is as a public speaker. By upping his moderate/liberal bona fides with an Obama endorsement which basically denounces his entire time in W's cabinet, he increases his potential income via an enlarged speaking pool by 1000%. Liberal universities that would never have hired him to speak as Bush's former Sec. of State will now bust a nut trying to get him to visit their campuses. Boolah, boolah, boolah, its all about the MOOLAH.
