One ACORN manual puts it succinctly: "This is a mass organization directed at political power where might makes right."
A major ACORN tactic is the minimum-wage increase initiative, which it has pushed in dozens of states, succeeding most recently in Florida in 2004. However, as its manual notes: "Ultimately the living wage amount is a question of politics and organizing strength, not a technical one. Ideally, campaigns want to push for as high a wage as possible."
Hence, it frequently pushes for minimum-wage rates that it admits are economically untenable but will whet the appetite for a free lunch and bring voters to the polls--where they'll vote for the liberal candidate.
Jen Kern, head of ACORN's Living Wage Resource Center, confirmed the political--rather than economic--import of its initiatives: "We would like it to become a fact of political life, where every year the other side has to contend with a minimum-wage law in some state."
It is a source of ACORN's strength that it does not even have to succeed in the short-term to further its long-term goals of maximizing political power. "Losing a close fight is not necessarily bad if it builds your base," Rathke says.
Though not wholly successful, in 2004 ACORN raised nearly $20 million for the election. With political winds shifting in its direction, 2006 and 2008 promise to be crucial years for the organization.
Savvy politicians like former --and possibly future-Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards have recognized ACORN's usefulness. He is now teaming up with ACORN to promote minimum-wage hikes in Ohio and Arizona.
But what is the purpose of accumulating all that political power? Fundamentally, ACORN exists to harass business, reshaping the political landscape to fit its cramped, anti-business ideology. Political ideologues are not new to civilized society, of course. Rathke and company are just better funded and organized than most of their predecessors.
Because it exists on so many levels, not conforming to traditional definitions of an industry threat, ACORN manages to fly under the radar, despite its vast size and influence. A hybrid it may be, but don't be fooled. It is no chimera.
Why work, when the pies are gonna be free. Michelle said so.
Where is that line ...
Socialism doesn’t fail, it just runs out of other people’s money to give away.
The age old promise of a free lunch. By now you would have thought everyone knew how it came out.
All the while the MSM was leading the mantra ‘Bush stole the election’, the MSM was and is turning a blind eye to true election fraud that turned lord knows how many elections. If the ACORN scandal does not cost Obama the election, democracy in America is finished, with the blessing of the media.
Acorn is the Lest Wing’s version of the German Panzerfaust. It’s a use once but deadly weapon.
Even if the group is destroyed, they will have accomplished their goal of getting a Marxist elected President.
FRAUD BUMP!
Obama supposedly "just raised" $150 Million for his last-ditch ads. How'd he do that?
ACORN's registration activities facilitate ID theft which their chosen candidates use in campaign finance fraud to circumvent FEC laws..........the campaign uses stolen names as campaign donors in order to deploy money from shady sources.

FReeper Calpernia posted earlier: ACORN registration fraud insures illegals and low-income housed will fraudulently decide who the next President is.
MODUS OPERANDI Several states have pre-pledged their 2008 electorals. New Jersey, New York, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Connecticut have embedded into law a total of 187 pre-pledged electorals. Electors by law will vote for whomever receives the most popular vote. Also means that, nationally, only 83 more electorals are needed for Obama to win.
Not to mention ACORN's strongarm tactics in the subprime mess.
Where Obama's fraudulent votes are.
Only if they willingly give money to ACORN, but blaming the victim is no way to deal with thugs. ACORN should be fought directly.
If law enforcement doesn’t bring ACORN under control, ACORN can take their tactics as far as they want. I suspect that sympathy for the far right back (along with a hatred of the far left) in Weimar Germany among the police and armed forces allowed the brownshirts and other groups to create anarchy unchecked. The authorities took sides back then. The authorities here don’t have to do that. They merely need to keep agitators from trespassing and breaking other laws.

Where’s Bill Taft’s bed when you really need it?
“Might made Right” in Zimbabwe, didn’t it?
The best and most fertile part of Africa, which fed most of the continent cannot feed itself anymore. The farms are basically in ruins.
After the election I think Free Republic needs to go on full frontal assault to destroy ACORN.
From the Restaurant News...
Now I know why illegal immigration has been put on the back burner as a campaign issue.
Be aware!!
