Powell Backed Black Democrat Before

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama on Sunday morning during his appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press."

The media spin has been that Powell, a Republican and former John McCain supporter, has taken very the unusual step of crossing party lines to back a Democrat he thinks will serve the country best.

But a review of Powell’s own campaign contributions with the FEC shows that he has crossed party lines once before to help an African-American Democrat in a federal race.

In 1994, then-Virginia Gov. L. Douglas Wilder, the state’s first African-American governor, entered the Democratic primary in a bid for the U.S. Senate.

Records show that Powell donated $1,000 to Wilder’s campaign. Wilder later withdraw from the primary as polls showed him lagging three other candidates.

Lets not forget, Powell refused to run with W back in 2000, and if not for the SCOTUS, Gore would have won as a result.

A W/Powell ticket would have won easily.

It’s been obvious since then that he has no allegiance to the GOP.

What a surprise. A black racist endorsing an other black racist.
As an European, it frightens me to see America being lead by black racists.

The left has already declared Powell to be an “Uncle Tom”, so this shouldn’t matter.

More racism.

In 1994, Wilder was running as an independent, stealing votes from Democrat incumbent Chuck Robb.

By giving money to Wilder, Colin Powell was actually helping Oliver North.

Powell was a good General when he had good Generals working for him. He was poor as Sec. State.
I see no reason to value his political choices.

Collin Powell will have to tell me which of Obama's positions he favors over those of Alan Keyes who also ran for the office of President this year.

I voted for Keyes in the Texas primary (when the leading choices were McCain and Huckabee).

Which party's primary did he vote in this year?

Powell is a RACIST.

He always has been.

I hope thr eGOP learned something from this ... the GOP pushed him ONLY because of his SKIN COLOR. His ideology has ALWAWYS been with the Demoncrats.

OTOH Condi has ALWAYS been a GOP person. It went beyond her skin color.

I said yesterday that he would endorse Osama. It just shows how out of touch with America Powell is. I threw his book away that I purchased a few years ago. I could not even finish reading it it was so full of just crap. I threw the book away after he left as a failed SecState. He is a buffoon.

But now Powell is their house n-word. They now permit him to come IN their house, whereas formerly they denigrated him WITH SUCH TERMS. (Harry Belefonante was among those who've said it)

I don't care who he endorsed, that's his choice.

But saying on National TV with sincerity and a straight face that Sarah is not qualified to be be POTUS because she doesn't have the experience and that Obama will appoint members to his cabinet to make up for his lack of experience is beyond a willing suspension of disbelief.

As one of my closest friends said (and she worked for him for his 4-yr stint as Chairman of the Joints Chief) race trumps all with him....and anyone who ever doubted it was living in dream land....I’ve been very disappointed in him for the past 7 years...he show’s me zero....a racist, is a racist, is a racist no matter the color!

During his tenure as governor, Wilder granted a controversial pardon to basketball star Allen Iverson. Iverson, then a popular high school sports figure, was convicted after being accused of assaulting a woman in a bowling alley and sentenced to 5 years in prison. However, due to Wilder’s own judgment, after Iverson had served just five months, Governor Wilder granted Iverson clemency and released Iverson from his prison sentence.
