Twice today, both on Meet The Press and when he was iterviewed outside the studio, Colin Powell said that the republicans are running a campaign claiming that Barack Obama is a Moslem. Powell says this is "unacceptable".
I agree, it is unacceptable for someone supposedly as experienced as Colin Powell to manufacture this slander out of thin air. We follow this election pretty closely, and neither McCain or the GOP has EVER even hinted that Obama is Moslem.
In the same sentence, Powell disnissed both this imaginary GOP campaign that Obama is a Moslem, and dismissed the charge that obama has associated with a terrorist.
Powell is either dangerously misinformed or engaging in deliberate slander.
When I heard this fanasy "Moslem" charge straight from his own mouth, I lost all respect for Colin Powell. And Powell is wrong about Ayers as well.

Powell is merely spouting the talking points that were spoon-fed to him by David Axelrod.
Sad that his public career has come to this, that he could slander McCain and so many others, but that’s what it is.
Colin Powell has proved that, in the end, for him skin color trumps all.

Actually, the more Powell talks about Obama not being a MUSLIM, the more that impression will be embedded in some voters’ minds.

Powell stabbed McCain in the back. Pretty disgraceful but not surprising, he knew from the beginning that Scooter Libby wasn’t the guy who dropped the dime on Wilosns old lady and he left Libby swining in the wind. AT that point I cahnged my opinion of Powell from disagreeing with him to despising him.

Powell also said it’s okay if he IS a muslim. That tells me he either KNOWS o is a muslim, or he THINKS o is a muslim. And he wants to say it’s okay just in case irrefutable evidence gets out.

The vast majority of high ranking military officers are men of honor and integrity. After the fiasco of Plame and Armitage and now this it is evident that Colin Powell is not among them.
Ditto to what you said. His two-bit endorsement of his “messiah” should have been enough. There was absolutely no reason for him to try to finish McCain off with a “frag.” Powell is a hate-filled individual.
I was flamed in 2000 during the recount for saying Bush shouldn’t pick Powell as SOS. I was against him because he wouldn’t side with W against Gore. What a weasel!

Of course he’s a muslim. He’s hiding that fact just like he’s hiding his middle name.
I frequently drive through a neighboring city where there is a large muslim population, children riding bikes in muslim garb.....had to stop inside the store there and they were polite and cordial....answered my questions about finding a particular address. I actually feel safe in that neighborhood. Just sayin’.....I am surrounded by several Pakistani families in my own neigbhorhood.....makes life interesting, especially the summer they were raising goats.

My son is an Army veteran of Desert Storm. I gave Colin Powell the benefit of the doubt however my son did not, my son was right as you were.
what a dissapointing disgrace he is. To downplay Obama’s connection to Ayers is unbelievable coming from a man with a distinguished military career. He needs go back and hide under the rock he’s been under.

I say bring on Rev. Wright! Supposedly it was the possibility of a Powell endorsement that was keeping McCain from using it.
He is no more a Republican tha Edwin Brooke was. Why he remains in the party is a mystery. His animosity may run just past Bush and company. He was never invited to the run for president party and never will be as a Republican.
Any respect that I have had for Colin Powell has been flushed down the toilet. In the past he had a reputation as a “soldier’s general”. Since leaving the Army however, he’s apparently been taking sips of the liberal Kool-Aid. And now the Kool-Aid has taken effect. His brain is gone. He is now assimilated by the liberal collective.

I agree with you. I am disgusted. What do our military freepers think of this? I am going to throw his book away; in it he talks about the lack of respect the Clinton White House had for the military. What does he think an Obama White House will?
From what I recall, Powell drew up plans to invade Kuwait which were a disaster. It took Schwarzkopf rewriting the plans into something workable that made the invasion a success.
It seems that Powell has taken full advantage of his race throughout his career. He is as much a Republican as David Gergen.

Powell is a traitor to his party and unless obama offered him something, his political career just got flushed down the crapper.
In the sixties there were lots of “hippies” in the miltary who agreed with Ayers. Powell may have been one of them. I was in from 69-70 and I saw it often.
