Sarah Palin sets 'SNL' ratings record

Sarah Palin's visit to "Saturday Night Live" drew the show's highest overnight rating in 14 years.

Last night's telecast, hosted by Josh Brolin and featuring musical guest Adele, averaged a 10.7 rating and 24 share in 56 metered markets, according to Nielsen Media Research. That's the highest overnight 'SNL' average since a 1994 episode that was hosted by Nancy Kerrigan and featured musical guest Aretha Franklin.

Saturday's program also included appearances by Alec Baldwin, Mark Wahlberg, Oliver Stone and -- once again reprising her role as Palin -- Tina Fey. But it was the much-anticipated visit by the real Alaska governor that gave the show its biggest overnight rating in more than a decade. The numbers also make "SNL" the third-highest-rated show of last week, after ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" and CBS' "CSI."

'SNL' has successfully capitalized on viewer interest in the election this season. The veteran sketch comedy show's ratings are running 76% higher than during the opening weeks last fall.

Wouldn’t it be a hoot if Obama appeared on SNL and the ratings tanked?

“’SNL’ has successfully capitalized on viewer interest in the election this season. “

They’ve capitalized on Sarah Palin! They had lousy ratings before she came on the scene.

I think 0bama’s been on already, with the Hillary and Bill masquerade party. Darrell Hammond was good as always, but 0 left no impression.

Here’s what I posted at Intrade: I predicted something like this in a completely snarky way.

Palin does a better job than Tina Fey on SNL and causes a landslide election win in her favor.

I saw the videos. She looked good. I just hope she hasn't compromised her credibility by appearing on the slacker SNL.

Evidently “0” didn’t make an impression. I don’t even remember it.

I’d sure love to see those ratings numbers.

I wouldn’t worry about it. She stepped up to the challenge with grace, style, intelligence and elegance.

She did great.

I barely remember it myself.

Hammond and Poehler were good, though.

LOOSERS!!!!!!!!!!! It’s takes a gorgeous conservative for them to improve their ratings. This must really hurt the feeling of all of those Hollywood stars that have hosted.

The ratings don’t surprise me... imagine what the actual viewership is once youtube and replayed video are included. Too bad though, all those that just watched the palin clips failed to see how much the rest of the show really sucked. It is unfathomable that with a known draw, that is the best they could pull together. I sat there in amazement that this show is still on the air... I would bet the shamwow infomercials bring in more money in that time slot. unbelievably NOT funny.

Just great...so more people tuned in to see Republicans mocked, slandered, trashed, crucified.....and we are happy about this?

Why not have the Gov go on the View next, and flog herself with a whip?

You know, Christ-like, so we can all say awwwww....see what she did for us?
