Osteoporosis????? Thst is NOT a deadly disease. Means you ahve very frail bones... I wonder if she broke something, that can be rough... I am two stages behind that, Osteopenia. Shattered an elbow because of it.... but this in and of itself is NOT a deadly disease, certainly would NOT be emergent, life threatening, or something you would die of. Either its some other medical condition or Barry has other reasons for going to Hawaii.

No, osteoporosis is not itself life threatening.

However, at age 87, just the shock of breaking a hip and knowing that it will never be of use to you again very often means the victim loses hope....and simply withers.

I've seen it happen to my own grandmother who simply went to bed and talked to shadows for the next six years.

Granny Dunham sounds to be a pretty sturdy lady and I hope this rare visit from someone who owes her a great debt will help her spirits.

What he does while not at the hospital remains up to conjecture and I'm not so hopeful in that regard.
