Candidates don't talk about immigration
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 22 Oct 2008 | Mark Cromer

Posted on 10/22/2008 9:27:45 AM PDT by BGHater

The presidential and vice presidential debates are behind us and yet after nearly eight cumulative hours of the candidates regurgitating sound bites, the nation has heard nary a word on immigration or the challenges it poses to our future.

As they enter the home stretch of the campaign, Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain undoubtedly hope to escape any serious questions on the topic. Both surely breathed a sigh of relief last week when the final debate ended and the elephant in America's living room had gone unmentioned.

CBS news veteran Bob Schieffer, following the template set by PBS's Jim Lehrer and Gwen Ifill and NBC's Tom Brokaw, allowed the candidates to avoid even a single tough question about immigration policy, a subject that both senators are loathe to take on in front of 70 million viewers of all political and ethnic stripes.

It was a disgraceful journalistic failure.

Immigration permeates virtually every domestic problem facing the nation today: health care, education, jobs and the environment; it also factors into national security and foreign policy. Given the size of the foreign-born population in the United States today - more than 40 million - it's difficult to imagine any policy initiative succeeding that did not first address the fundamentals of immigration.

The candidates have talked about the financial crisis. They've talked about job losses and their plans to create new jobs. And yet they have said nothing about the millions of foreign laborers illegally in the United States today that have driven millions of Americans out of a wide range of employment sectors while suppressing wages for citizens still working in those industries.

Maybe the illegal immigration issue is why McCain agreed to having all three debates hosted by leftists.

And the moderators don’t ask about it either. Don’t want to upset ‘that one.’
What an absolute joke.

I’m beginning to think the whole thing is rigged. Why on earth isn’t McCain hammering home the terrorism angle? Even after Biden’s gaffe, which opened a huge door for the REpublican ticket, McCain is still weakly mentioning Obama’s inexperience and naivete. I don’t think he wants to win. Either that, or his handlers are subversives.

...nary a word on immigration...

Yep, that makes sense...It’s not about immigration...It’s about ILLEGAL immigration...

I already know both parties have ditched this issue...So I guess when the next benchmark estimation on how many ILLEGALS are in this country...Say, 30-35 million...They may talk about it again, but nooooooo, don’t you dare suggest what we do with our voting block, and or the cheap labor pool...

Like I’ve said before, it was a good run...Almost made it to 240 years...

Political debates are opportunities for candidates to ventilate their differences on an issue, and border security is a `third rail’ for both of them, even more so than social security.
Since they have no real differences on the issue and the 4th estate agrees with them, and neither wants to touch the rail, this important issue was simply ignored.

I do think it is rigged and also has been gamed by financial sabotage, but I have no doubt McCain wants to be president. He may be ignoring useful advice, or he may be following terrible advice. Unfortunately, what looked like a possible win for him has vanished since mid-september for reasons totally beyond his control.

Not to mention the mortgage meltdown and the TRILLION DOLLAR BAILOUT.

Mark Levin read from this older article yesterday. It covers it well.

The bottom line is, WHEN YOU IMPORT POVERTY, YOU GET MORE POVERTY!

Here is the article he was reading from:

Importing Poverty

By Robert J. Samuelson
Wednesday, September 5, 2007; Page A21

[snip]the media and politicians — missed a big part of the story. It is this: The stubborn persistence of poverty, at least as measured by the government, is increasingly a problem associated with immigration. As more poor Hispanics enter the country, poverty goes up. This is not complicated, but it is widely ignored.

What is interesting about the debates and particularly Sheiffer, is during the 2004 debates he asked the public for questions. He said he got more about immigration/aliens than any subject. This time he just didn’t bother to ask.

...the evidence is hiding in plain sight, and the facts won't vanish just because we ignore them

So true!

Good article.

I think they are simply inept. When the liberal media and Obama's campaign threw the race card, they should have attacked and called him to the mat for it. One can't simply be afraid of being labeled anymore. This card has been used many times already, and our leaders need to start growing a backbone.

REPOST Politicians' gonads are being squeezed by propaganda emanating from south of the border. Vote-crazed pols are mesmerized by the (fraudulent) voting numbers being tossed around.

Juan Hernandez, McC's Hispanic Outreach man told Cong Tancredo: " By populating the United States with millions of Hispanics who are tied economically, politically and linguistically to Mexico, we are able to exert enormous influence and pressure on U.S. policy and its dealings with Mexico."

Third World federales are salivating, lying in wait to corrupt US justice and undermine US national security. They are moving reconquista forward inch by inch. Third World peasants are marched over the border to begin the process-----subsidized by US taxpayers.

Once they squat here, the illiterates cop an arrogant sense of entitlement---like America owes them a living. They violate our borders, invade our cities, towns and suburbs, establish multiple identities with several stolen SS nos, and ride the US gravy train for all its worth.

As Freeper raybbr insightfully posted: the invaders feel entitled to participate in our government, our security, our prosperity, our legislative process, and our thriving society.

About time to show these Third World Wonders the way to go home.

Immigration permeates virtually every domestic problem facing the nation today:

Remember when certain posters here and others used to say, "Oh, those single issue voters" "One trick ponies", have their priorities messed up.

They knew as well of most of us that when millions are pouring in illegally, it affects every single aspect of our system, including our electoral process.

Oh, you all will have plenty of opportunity to talk about immigration - around February when the Obama/Pelosi/Reid juggernaut pushes through their amnesty with immediate citizenship and welfare for 30-40 million illegals and all the additional family members to come while the RINOs left in congress (including McCain) just sit back and go along.
