I wish you lived near me too! I'd welcome someone to the neighborhood who's competent in protecting their property. I can't claim to be as skillful as you, but I am armed, I know how to use it, and I wouldn't hesitate should the need arise.
My reply was to the 73-year-old grandmother who posted about having drive-by's who wrote down her address and gave her the evil eye in front of her own house because of her McCain sign. I don't think it's reasonable to expect the majority of our female senior citizens to not feel intimidated by such behavior. I advocated she take whatever steps help her to feel safer. She may or may not own or feel capable of using a firearm, and her need is current and may not give her enough time to change that equation.
I feel badly that anyone would try to shame her for feeling she needs to take her sign down in order to protect herself, and I did read a few responses to her indicating just that. I hate it that she feels intimidated, too. But, she has reasons and she needs to do what she can to feel safer. I wish you and I both lived near her, I really do.
She better call home and tell the folks to burn the trash, shred her documents, and not answer questions from strangers about her personal life. What they've done to Joe the Plumber is nothing next to what they are going to put her through.

Republican campaign says she was attacked by a mugger who became enraged after seeing a John McCain bumper sticker on her car last night.
According to police, the 20-year-old woman said she was robbed at an ATM at the corner of Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street in the Bloomfield area around 9pm Wednesday after leaving a Republican phone bank.
The woman told police that the suspect, described only as a dark-skinned African-American man about 6’4”, stole $60 from her and became enraged after seeing a bumper sticker supporting Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain on her car.
The woman said the suspect punched and kicked her before knocking her the ground.
The McCain camp tells KDKA that the victim is a 20-year-old Republican from Texas.
According to a campaign spokesperson, after seeing her bumper sticker supporting McCain, the suspect said, ‘Oh you’re with McCain, you’re with the McCain campaign? I’m going to teach you a lesson.’”
After repeatedly hitting, kicking and threatening the woman, the McCain camp says the suspect carved a “B” in her cheek for “Barack” Obama.
According to the police report, the officer confirmed that he “observed the wound on the right side of [her] face.
The unidentified woman reportedly declined immediate medical attention last night but said she would go to the hospital today.
The suspect ran off after the attack; but police are hoping that footage from bank surveillance camera may help lead them to the suspect.
In an official statement the McCain campaign says: “We’re shaken up by this. It’s sick and disgusting.”
Governor Sarah Palin reportedly spoke with the victim by phone.
Meanwhile, late this afternooon, the Obama-Biden campaign released a statement, saying: “This is a horrendous act of violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with the young woman for her to make a speedy recovery, and we hope that the person who perpetrated this crime is swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.”

Regrettably, I’d have to agree on this. If it happened the way it is being reported, then we can and should rightly blast the despicable tactics of the Obama Cult of Personality.
BUT I am old enough and curmudgeonly skeptical enough to remember Morton Downey Jr. and the swastika-attack-that-wasn’t. We have a lot to lose if we back the wrong horse here.

It’s not backwards...it’s upside down....the “B” that is. This could be significant. The perp could have been holding her down sitting over her head, facing her feet, in which case the “B” would have been upside down. Flip the photo 180 degrees. I’m sure you’ll understand what I’m talking about.
