It sounds pretty serious if intravenous antibiotics are required. I wonder if it's vancomycin which is an antibiotic of last resort.

Below is another article with more detail.

DOCTOR: BRADY GETTING BETTER

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who has undergone three surgeries on his left knee, appears to be on target to make a full recovery.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the renowned Dr James Andrews, who was consulted by Brady's surgeon Dr Neal ElAttrache, said the two-time Super Bowl MVP is responding to antibiotics and that doctors are confident the quarterback's recovery timetable for his ligament graft has not been compromised.

"What I gather from talking to Neal today is that Tom's getting better, and what has been done is getting him well," said Andrews, widely considered the country's pre-eminent sports orthopaedist.

"Optimistically, once you get this under control and you can save that graft and win the infection battle - which apparently, from what I gather, he is winning - once the healing process catches back up, it really doesn't set him behind to any degree relative to the overall healing process. The main thing is to save the graft."

Brady, who threw for a single-season record 50 touchdowns in 2007, suffered a torn MCL and ACL the season opener against Kansas City on September 7.

Brady underwent his first surgery on October 6, but has had two more surgeries since to battle an infection, putting into doubt if he would able to recover in time for the 2009 season.

Don’t you watch one of the 37 ESPN channels? This has been on there for two or three days.

Things haven’t been going too well for Tom since they were 18-0, have they?

Too bad.

But it hasn't been discussed on Free Republic. The growing level of antibiotic resistance by pathogenic bacteria isn't just an issue that impacts sports.

Six weeks of IV antibiotics is standard when a post op knee gets infected. It’s very hard to clear an infection in a joint space.

If such a thing as bad karma exists, dumping your pregnant girlfriend to date Gisele Bundchen is gonna earn you some.

Five years ago, I had an infection in my leg that went crazy and got in my bloodstream and almost killed me. I was in the hosptial for 13 days, and after that I needed three weeks of PT in order to walk again. And I developed a permanent allergy to all forms of penicillin, which could become dangerous down the road, if I get another serious infection.

People die or are maimed from this staph stuff.

He needs Allimax, cures MRSA when anti-biotics fail, very powerful garlic extract that is proven by doctors to kill MRSA when all other things fail. Brady, you can put your trust in these doctors or spend 60 dollars on Allimax and be done with it, your choice.

Check out these testimonies, entire family being eatin' alive by severe strain on MRSA, saved WITHOUT antibiotics (that would have failed anyway). Thousands upon thousands are dying each year.

Testimonies ... Allimed is a stronger form of Allimax, made by the same people.

Allow me to translate this garbage. He through! Watch for the 4th operation where they go back in to ‘save the joint’, followed by amputation. I wonder if the SuperModel will still want him!

Pinging Lando Lincoln for input. Didn't you have a young relative who had to deal with something like this a few years ago?

Accept my apologies if I'm remembering the wrong Freeper!
