The truth about Edwards’ new radio ad (Chet Edwards Lies)
www.robcurnockforcongress.com ^ | Oct. 21, 2008 | Rob Says

Many of you in District 17 have been hearing a radio commercial being played by my opponent in this congressional race, and if you’re like me, when I first heard it, I was stunned.

It represents the worst of what politics has become in this day and age.

In a breathtaking distortion of the facts, Chet Edwards claims that I want to raise taxes on the American people by 30%. This spot even goes so far as to say I’ll tax food for children and medicine for the elderly. That’s crazy and nothing could be further from the truth. Since this campaign began, I have been campaigning to lower taxes and cut federal spending. This is a clear and distinct difference between my opponent and myself.

I do want to replace our current unfair and complex tax code with some sort of a “fair tax” or national sales tax. This would eliminate the IRS and the income tax. There are many different proposals for tax reform and I would look at all of them. But the bottom line is that, in the end, almost all Americans would wind up paying less in taxes and April 15th would become just another day.

In one last bitter swipe at me, the spot calls me “politician Rob Curnock.” This is absolutely incredible coming from my opponent, who has never held a job in the private sector in his adult life. I’ve been a small business owner for 24 years and have never worked in the government sector. I guess I just don’t understand his definition of a “politician”. At this point, I know I’m not one.

Please tell everyone you know about the absurdity of this ad. I understand my opponent is trying to define me to those who don’t know me or what we stand for, but it’s pretty pathetic when you get down to it. Unfortunately, it really does show the ugly side of politics.

I’m sorry anyone has had to hear such garbage.

This guy, Edwards, is a complete fraud. He pretends to be a "Conservative" Democrat, and has had a hold on Texas' 17th (Waco). I cant vote against him, but if you live in that area, spread the word!

There is a liberal democrat here in San Antonio doing the exact same kind of adds against a conservative. He is saying the republican is going to raise taxes and fails to mention it is a sales tax that replaces the income tax. It is very dishonest, but I keep seeing those adds and no rebuttal.

I just heard the ad running on the AM talk radio station that runs the Limbaugh,Hannity, Levin line up. It is a total lie and distortion, but unfortunately, it will be effective. I can see why he is trying to set the record straight.

Rob Curnock needs to get a counter ad up fast. Emails sent to his supporters are not going to do the trick. Just my two cents.

Here's your ad:

It is said that Aggies do not lie, cheat, steal, nor tolerate those who do. Chet Edwards is lying in his attack ads on Rob Curnock claiming that Rob will raise taxes. Rob supports a national sales tax on non-essential items that eliminates the income tax and the IRS altogether.

Send the career politician Edwards a message that you will not tolerate his lies. Vote for Rob Curnock.

I agree. He could take this exact piece and make a radio/internet commercial without having to change much.

I find the use of “politician” especially disgusting because Edwards is the current Congress member. He also tries to act conservative, but is going with his main man Hussein Obama for the election. If that isnt politics before principals, I dont know what is.

Chet Edwards is the definition of a politician, and a perfect example of why we need term limits, or at least to just throw the bums out!

I live in the 17th District and voted against Edwards yesterday. He has a stranglehold on this district. Sheesh, Nancy Pelosi suggested he’d be a good VP candidate.

They are running the same ad against Chambliss in Georgia. They tried the same tactic in GA against Issackson in 2006. It’s misleading but it’s up to us to correct the lie.

If I had ever heard of Chet Edwards or that Robin guy, I’d probably find this piece appropriate.

MY call to Cong. Edwards’ office last week: “How’s that 700B sell-out working for out for you? You voted against me and the American people in one of the most critical votes of your career. NOW, I get to vote against you.”

And. I did.

I know for a fact Chet Edward is a dishonest man. I used to work for two different campaigns with different congressional candidates against Chet.

Chet is a lifelong career politician, and uses his congressional staff to aid him in his camapaign (which is illegal).

Chet also received much “contributions” from the defense contractors while he was in the Defense Committee.

He will do anything to keep his seat. Including lies, cheat, and downright unethical behavior!

After the election was over, I showered for a week before I felt clean again!

Chet Edwards is lying by using a partial truth. Corporations pay income taxes. Those taxes are a cost to businesses. They pass that cost onto the consumer at each stage of production in the form of higher prices. The total of these taxes is just shy of 23%. A $1.00 includes 23 cents of taxes.

The Fair Tax will remove all embedded corporate income taxes since income taxes will be abolished. The $1.00 will cost 77 cents under The Fair Tax with the 23 cents applied separately as the national sales tax. 23/77=30%. Consequently the amount of tax collected will be the same amount as with the income tax. It is this simple concept Fair Tax opposers like Edwards attempt to distort. Fair Tax ping!

Chet Edwards is just like every other Dimocrat in that if his lips are moving he is lying.

Someone ought to confront him with the fact that his first vote in the new congress will be for Nancy Pelosi for speaker!

Our current income tax system is a Communist inspired (second section, toward the end) monstrosity unworthy of a free society and should be thrown onto the ash heap of history sooner rather than later!

The movement to do exactly that already exists and you can read all about it at the link below and decide for yourselves who is lying here.

So for anyone to say the Fairtax would be a tax cut for anyone but a corporation is a lie then.
