Palin And The Elitists
Investors Business Daily ^ | 10-24-08 | editorial

Posted on 10/24/2008 5:49:51 PM PDT by Wegotsarah.com

As if the mainstream media's dumpster-diving campaign against Palin isn't galling enough, the conservative elite's casually dismissive attitude toward the brightest GOP star from Alaska may be even worse.

Washington insiders' common mantra is "readiness." Colin Powell dismissed Palin as not "ready to be president." Kenneth Adelman, forgetting the governor is already above his pay grade, patronizingly declared her "not close to being acceptable in high office."

Their disdain is rivaled by some East Coast conservative pundits.

New York Times columnist David Brooks declared Palin "a cancer," and Washington Post writer Kathleen Parker called her "clearly out of her league." National Review's Christopher Buckley called Palin "an embarrassment, and a dangerous one at that." Wall Street Journal's Peggy Noonan sighed "there is little sign that she has the tools, the equipment, the knowledge or the philosophical grounding one hopes for, and expects, in a holder of high office." Slate's Christopher Hitchens summed it up: "Palin is simply a disgrace."

What does one make of such negativity from people whose work has otherwise been good? They all seem to no longer connect to either the heartland or a new kind of leader who didn't make her way up through elite colleges or through a husband's or father's connections. Maybe that's too hard to absorb for those who inhabit the stratified, elitist political ecosystems of New York and Washington.

But for opinion-makers, the vague dismissiveness of Palin over truly articulating an argument amounts to a dereliction of duty to the public. The steady repetition of "not ready" in the absence of facts becomes white noise, and undermines conservatism itself. (more)

One of the major benefits of the Governor Palin choice is that she is running off the RINOs and “republican” wannabes. She’s doing an excellent job scaring off the posers and moles.

I don’t think the public is buying the media destruction of Palin.

CBS has been just the worst on ripping Palin apart. But something interesting last night....Inside Edition had a call in poll...Is the media treating Sarah Palin unfairly?.....82% said YES. This comes on right after Couric.

Kudos to Investor’s Business Daily. This is a great paper that takes a very principled conservative stance in its editorial pages.

B, you’re right. And I’m not trying to be funny, and this is obviously conjectue, but I read that merchants can’t keep her stuff on the shelves- like even Halloween masks and customes...they say its incredible how fast she sells-—I mean do people try to look like someone they dislike?

Colin Powell had the look, and sound, of the country club elite snob and opportunistic RINO turncoat. The pained look he had was of a black man, willing to turn his country over to the lightweight, terrorist coddling, inexperienced, communist leaning, sorta black guy and his gaffing, bloviating, big mouthed, always WRONG, always TALKING V.P. running mate who PROMISES a foreign threat in Hussein’s first months in office. Go away, Colin, to the Sanctuary for Old Retired RINOs. If Hussein is elected, I’m sure you’ll get your mess of pottage, and maybe even your thirty pieces of silver - maybe.

Why did you not take responsibility for BELIEVING the information that was available at the time you gave your speech to the United Nations about Iraq? President Bush will be remembered as a man of courage and principle who has kept us safe for 7 years since 9/11. IF McCain only continued that part of President Bush’s policies, that would be a lot. Perhaps you will be remembered as a man who enabled a weak candidate to be elected President just because he is black.

I think it is AWESOME they are outing themselves — we need to make sure that door is permanently shut! Sarah Palin has been the perfect pick!

There is a Vichy Republican list, one of the tools of the Vichy is to use Gov Palin as a punching bag to then support Obamao.

What they really should be puzzling over and debating is how a dork who writes for The New York Times is ever taken seriously. How many New York Times readers are up on conservative intellectual movements? Has there been a mad rush to brush up on Kirk and Burke in their editorial room this year?

I think the media has been getting some well deserved flak. Katie Couric and the other CBS talking head just said to not trust the polls! (of course that could be because they are starting to trend toward McCain/Palin.)

Sadly Rice is better.

Lawrence Eagleburger and Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild both blew pretty big holes in Powell's little statement the last couple of days. He didn't move anybody, my younger brother is in college and surrounded by libs and most of them saw no benefit in being endorsed by the man who made the case for the Iraq war. Everyone I know seemed disappointed in him.

christopher hitichens has never been a conservative. He was always an atheist socialist who just so happens to support the iraq war. He’s a bit like Tony Blair (cept Tony Blair recently convert to Catholic I believe)

Of all these, I think Brooks calling Palin a "cancer" is the worst. It is utterly unconscionable. Whether Brooks thinks much or little of Palin's abilities is beside the point, but to call her a "cancer" is just despicable.

I know someone who distributes magazines, newspapers and books to several Supermarket, Wal-Mart type chains. She works in the Northeast and said many of them are selling one of the Palin Biographies, and they can't keep it on the shelf.

People can't possibly be this interested in someone they believe to be a moron.
