Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers, some of whom are currently working for Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin's bid for the White House, have been involved in spreading ant-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election. "Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012," says one former Romney aide, now working for McCain-Palin. "The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney. He's in charge on November 5th."

He’s NOT “in charge” of me on 5 November
and he’s NOT nationally electable, they need to deal with it
maybe if the Northeast republicans like Noonan et al secede and form their own government

what an arrogant putz

This is why he failed in the primaries. He is an opportunist, not a conservative.

I voted for Romney in the Georgia primary in February because he was the most conservative of a moderate to liberal bunch of remaining Republican candidates. Given the choice between Romney and Palin, its Palin for me in a heartbeat.

Romney was on Fox & Friends earlier this morning. I thought he gave a very diplomatic and pro-Palin answer to Gretchen's question, "Given your expertise in economics, do you think the McCain camp should have chosen you as VP?" (or something like that)

Actually, he was very positive about Ms Palin, IMO.

These are the “anonymous McCain staffers” who have been smearing Palin to the media.

They are probably behind EVERY smear since Sarah was chosen.

Well Mitt, ol' boy...you just committed a "joe biden" and not only shot yourself in the foot...you blew the thing completely off.

You and that other would-be V.P. pick - the former governor of PA - are just bloviating with sour grapes, aren't you. I mean, the only previous VP pick candidates who are anti-Palin are the two of you.

Well, here's a clue for you...you didn't get picked for the Presidential nominee, and you didn't get picked for the VP candidate...so maybe there is a message in that for you.

Recently I've been defending you, as I didn't agree with you being outed for being a Morman while Obama is being allowed to run, and is basically a Muslim (regardless of claims otherwise, because if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, chances are, it's a duck).

Also, you might be running against Governor Palin in 2002.

hands down, I supported Romney in the primaries. Among the candidates with any chance, he was the only one I thought would represent the party well in Nov. If this is true, I would reject any future bids without hesitation.

Agreed & I wouldn’t doubt it.

Why would he refuse to do something so easy as record a phone call against Kerry? Seems like the least someone could do, especially after Kerry said McCain wore Depends - you’d think any self-respecting Republican would want to do anything they could to help Kerry lose. Sounds to me like Romney’s got a bad case of sour grapes. If I were McCain those Romney supporters in my campaign that are spreading these rumors would be gone.

If Romney wants ANY future in the Republican Party, he will need to get out in front of this right now and very PUBLICLY rebuke any of his people involved. This is beyond the pale.

And where will the Mittster be on November 5th when John McCain is the President-elect, and Sarah Palin the Vice-President-elect?

Answer: Banished to a windswept, unnamed island in the middle of the Quabbin Reservoir. Can Mitt say “persona-non-grata?

The Obamessiah has Hillary spreading heresy among the faithful and is actively trying to sabotage his campaign.

Looks like Mitt is going to be McCain’s Hildebeest...

With "unnamed sources," this could just as easily be people afraid of Romney trying to torpedo him.

ASSUME ALL BAD STUFF IS FROM DEMS AND ACT ACCORDINGLY.

No, they've actually been seeking to hurt McCain/Palin's chance in this election. Why? Because a GOP victory next week effectively eliminates Romney from contention in '12.

He's just doing what the Clintons do, he has his underlings destroy his opponent and then he appears sympathetic. I'm sure he thinks that he only has to be nice for another week.
