Nearly Half Of Calif. Voters Casting Early Ballot
KPIX ^ | October 27, 2008

Close to half of all California voters are expected to cast their ballots by mail this election.

According data recently released by the California Association of Clerks and Elected Officials, at least 40 percent of the state's registered voters have already decided to vote by mail. That percentage, the association said, is expected to grow over the coming days.

Voting experts say a majority of voters prefer voting by mail in Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado. In all 28 states allow residents to vote by mail. Santa Clara has the second highest percentage of mail-in voters in California, with close to 69 percent. In Marin it's close to 60 percent, and in San Francisco, it's just over 40 percent. Mendocino County has the highest percentage at 74 percent.

The country's largest single voting district Los Angeles County contains California's lowest mail-in voting block. In LA County just over 20 percent vote by mail.

Early voting at registrar's offices has also been popular this year.

Contra Costa County Registrar of Voters Steve Weir said that when he came to work Sunday morning, there was already a line of people outside the office, ready to cast their ballots.

Weir said that he, and his staff, are working 7 days a week as the election nears.

And Kali is a “no proof of ID required” state. You can stroll down to the DMV any day and pick up as many registration forms as you would like. YOu don’t even need to be a citizen! And NOBODY from the state will ever check!

What a state! What a country!

(We’re frikkin doomed.)

Just grab a form, register Rin Tin Tin and they’ll sign you up.

Yes, but won’t it look odd when Rin Tin Tin shows up to vote? Not a problem... they will mail an absentee ballot to Rin Tin Tin.

Bob Dornan was tossed due to absentee ballot fraud and the Republicans in Congress refused to stand up for him.

Well that just gets the gold medal for the most obvious statement of the day. The only way the percentage would not grow would be if not a *single* additional voter in California requested an absentee ballot.

Let’s see...half of the state is illegal.

The other half is probably “disabled” and on the public dole. That explains it.

How did we suddenly get "Early Voting" this election? Was this an ACORN and Democrat initiative?

I am beyond suspicious that this is a vote/election stealing scheme.

That is completely uncalled for. I am a Californian and have lived in many other states and I still would rather live here than the others, my choice. As far as 1/2 and 1/2 statement, I would really like to see proof.

Voting wise take a look at the county registration and voting practices and the majority are Republicans. It's the big cities that crap on the state.

By the way which state do you reside in since you can make such bold statements about CA? It must be shangra-la.

My sarcasm detector may be broken, because it sounds like you’re actually serious. I’m currently living in Senator Government’s own Crook County (Chitcago). I am well aware of the havoc overgrown urban gutters wreak on otherwise red/self-sufficient areas.

But seriously, what would you say is the capital of fake ailments, imaginary disorders, and entitlements for any and every self-declared “disability” if not California?

Am I nuts for imagining endless stretches of high-rise rent-subsidized apartments where every parking space is “handicapped” and 90% of tenants plan on collecting their government check and ballot together to save a trip to the mailbox?

It’s funny how the Democrats think we will steal the election with the Diebold electronic voting, but how can that happen if everyone is voting absentee???
