WESTFIELD, Mass. (Oct. 27) - With an instructor watching, an 8-year-old boy at a gun fair aimed an Uzi at a pumpkin and pulled the trigger as his dad reached for a camera. It was his first time shooting a fully automatic machine gun, and the recoil of the weapon was too much for him. He lost control and fatally shot himself in the head.

No adult in his right mind would hand or allow someone to hand a loaded UZI to an 8 year old boy. I can tell you if I had been there and seen this developing I would have gotten in trouble for walking up and snatching that gun from the two idiot adults before they gave it to the kid.
I just had to share this monument of stupidity. I'm sure the father is absolutely devastated. I pray my son is never killed due to some stupid thing I do. I won't be too hard on him, but I am just dumbfounded that anyone would be so stupid.
Thank God the kid didn't really lose control and mow down the crowd too. I am so sad for this kid though.
What the hek was a loaded gun doing at a gun show ?
‘I can tell you if I had been there and seen this developing I would have gotten in trouble for walking up and snatching that gun”
He was not the only kid that day to shoot the mini-Uzi, from what I’ve read.
Would you let an 8 year old play with a band saw?
It is the small but flamboyant minority of complete idiots among 2A defenders that will give the left the propaganda they need to destroy the 2A.
A fully automatic weapon is a powerful tool - not a ******* toy.
I hope this "father" isn't allowed to raise any more children.
I don't know if he was suppose to shoot it, or if it just went off, but the recoil caused him to shoot himself in the head.
This "accident" was preventable in so very many ways it has just made me SICK this morning. No 8 year old should shoot or even HOLD a loaded UZI. I would come closer to letting my 8 year old hold a wild COBRA!
The idea that a Paramedic father and the (o*#$(*$^(%^ GUN INSTRUCTOR!!!!! Let an 8 year old hold a loaded UZI is just beyond stupid.
What a horrible thing to happen! A day out with dad that turned hideously tragic. I can’t imagine having to tell the boy’s mother. Poor woman, may God give both she and the dad strength.
MSM drivebys are calling this machinegun shoot a gun show, to demonize gun shows. It was not a gun show, but rather an organized shooting event, with a certified instructor per shooter.
The website for the event has been taken down, but I found a 2006 vid:

Looks like a pretty typical shoot, from my experience, I'm surprised though to see it in the People's Republic of Barney Frank.
It was part of the advertising to get folks to come to the show..... “Machine Gun Shoot and Firearms Expo”

The father ought to be locked up. Its criminal to allow a child to handle something like that. It’d be like letting him drive a car or play with your power tools. Whats wrong with a .22?
Westfield is in western MA. It’s like a completely different state. I grew up one town over from Westfield.
I was shooting at around 5, so were my kids and my grandkids. I’ve bought most of them their 1st guns, which reside in my safe. All of them were .22 rifles, not even semi-autos. Theses adults should be investigated.
An internet search shows another MG shoot in Hanson, MA. I thought that was a boy-band!
The town limits MG shooters to 21 yo with an ID.
Next I’ll find a boomershoot in Massachusetts, I bet.
Idiots! This child was surrounded by idiots when he died.
"This accident was truly a mystery to me," said Bizilj, director of emergency medicine at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford, Conn. "This is a horrible event, a horrible travesty, and I really don't know why it happened."
Anyone that has ever been around full-auto weapons would know that handing an 8 year old a full auto weapon of any kind is a criminally negligent thing to do. I doubt the 8 year old had ever fired even a single shot 9mm, much less one on full auto. In a small frame short barrel weapon the muzzle rise from full auto fire is pretty shocking the first time you try it. I have cycled thousands of 9mm+p rounds thru M9/92F Berettas, and the first time I shot a full auto 9mm sub with non+p, I was pretty amazed at how much effort it took to keep the muzzle down.
I think if I had seen someone hand a full auto Uzi to an 8 year old I would be in jail now for kicking their stupid asses.
ENRAGED MOTHER KILLS HUSBAND/FATHER BY SHOVING SUV UP HIS ****
Not after a trial by any jury that I'm sitting on.
It’s not just 8 year olds. It can be anyone of any age. I’ve seen videos of adults who had the gun fly up and completely over their head and land 10 feet behind them because they had no experience with a powerful load. I hate going to public ranges because you never know if the other people there are capable of handling weapons or not. I also hate when idiots give such guns to people that they know can’t handle it just to get some laughs.
Good thing Ft. Devens closed as that law would have caused some confusion on the firing range at the former Army base.
The longer I think about it, it's too bad this young kid didn't shoot (non-fatally) the Father and the gun instructor. I would be spending my morning laughing over my corn flakes. I don't like to see anyone hurt but that would have been much better than what happened.
