Declaring a state of emergency in Florida because of long voting lines, Gov. Charlie Crist on Tuesday extended early voting hours across the state to 12 hours a day.

The executive order comes after record early voting turnout has contributed to long lines at polling sites.

Current Florida law allows for early voting to be conducted eight hours a day each weekday and for a total of eight hours during the weekends. With Crist's order, early voting sites will be open the rest of this week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. They will be open a total of 12 hours on Saturday and Sunday, the last day of early voting....

My guess is Crist thinks early voting is going McCain’s way.

What a scam, early voting and Gov Crist.

Why not we go back to election day?

Or maybe, free pies, vote here.

Well, stupid me! I thought the idea of voting early was to avoid long lines & waits.

Yes, once upon a time, a person could only vote once, twice if they were lucky. Now with early voting, there is plenty of time for lots and lots of voting.

one of the morning show reporters in FL let something slip; FL and OH are going toward McCain, so far.

Isn’t the conventional wisdom that a large turnout favors the democrat?

I agree. Election day should remain election day. Not early voting for a month or more for folks to stuff the ballot boxes. No month or more for folks to rotate from precinct to precinct voting inplace of the illegally registered or doing same day registration and vote then “return home to Chicago” as was recently done in Ohio.

If you need an absentee ballot to vote early, go to the courthouse and get it, otherwise vote on election day only.

It was before 2000 and 2004. The GOP creatd a huge GOTV machine with this micro-targeting thing. Now large turnout tends to favor GOP candidates. Esp. makes sense when you consider that Democrats have been doing GOTV for so long that they are going to reach their ceiling sooner than Republicans.

I hope Crist does not help Obambi by doing something stupid. He is a RINO like Mel Martinez (barf).

If M/P pull this off, I will be joyful of course, but it will be a miracle because of all the voter fraud.

Actually, early voting is a great idea, and having done it (and being a poll watcher), I can tell you it is more orderly and much less susceptible to problems than when a huge mob arrives on election day. Well, I shouldn’t have used the word mob, maybe.

Early voting also protects us if the actual Election Day gets disrupted, which may well happen now that The One has told his followers to stay home from work and school that day and “work for him.”

I voted early today in a Fl precinct that is as red as it gets. I went at 10:30 and had to wait in a short line, but the line was still there when I left. Just for fun I swung by again about 2:30 on my way back home and the line was still there.

Last year early voting was MUCH less crowded.
