HARTFORD, Conn. - Locked in a tough re-election campaign in a district that overwhelmingly supports Barack Obama, Connecticut Rep. Christopher Shays has joined some fellow Republicans in publicly voicing frustration with John McCain's presidential campaign.

Shays told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the Republican nominee's campaign has gone too negative against Obama, and has muted his message of being an independent thinker with the best ideas and experience needed to solve the nation's problems.

With the tone of the campaign and Obama's lead in the polls, McCain will have a difficult time winning the presidency, Shays said, although he believes it's still possible.

"He's taken the thing that is most valuable, his (maverick) brand, and he's not staying true to it," Shays said. "I admire John McCain more than you can imagine. He would make a great president.

He has a point though. McCain is running a campaign that didn’t offer much more then “Vote for me cuz the other guy sucks.” I really wish he had done his homework on the financial side and offered a consevative yet pro-business vision. I wish he had given people a vision to follow. Obama sold a lot of people on some empty “hops” and “change” crap that has ni substance.

Criticism from Chrissie-Whissie tells me that McCain is saying the right things.

Ahh yes, Chris Shays, a voice just like the one’s who urged our party to nominate McCain and then promptly endorsed Obama.

To Shays:

I am so sick of Trolls and whiners about being
behind in fake polls or RINOS switching sides.

Vote for McCain/Palin and quit playing to the
beat of the MSM and democrat party.

I remember his town hall meeting on the subject. What an ass this guy is. I hope he’s defeated. He does us no good anyway.

Shays is from my blue district. I put this rhetorically to Freepers—who’s better- him or a “real” democrat. and the answer seems to be- people don’t know— so he keeps on getting re-ealected. I

that part of the country might as join Quebec and let them have their liberal utopia

bet in 10 years after their illegals, homo’s, high tax;s, big govt, nanny laws, etc etc the majority of that area will wake up and realise that they want to move to normal America

I think the north eastern states are losing conservative middle-income voters because of cost-of-living issues, leaving behind high-income limo liberals and no-income welfare state parasites, who deserve each other. Republicans will have a tougher and tougher time defending seats in the area. I don’t blame him for doing what he’s doing - his political career’s circling the drain. Losing means he becomes a panhandler, either on K street or on Wall Street, dependent on the whims of corporate supporters.

From the man who put that phony *paid volunteering* Americorps back into the fiscal budget when it had died a necessary death.

I am so sick of this "too negative" baloney from these idiots, Powell included, when all that is going on is a candidate telling the voter things about his opponent that said voter has a RIGHT TO KNOW in order to assess his choices. Shays, we are voting to endow someone with the Public Trust here, the voter needs all the information available to determine whether or not the candidate is TRUSTWORTHY.

I think it’s generally better to get our way some of the time than to get it none of the time.
