Election 2008: Michigan Presidential Election (McCain gains though running no ads)
http://www.rasmussenreports.com ^ | OCT 29,2008 | Rasmussen Reports

Barack Obama now leads John McCain 53% to 43% in Michigan, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state.

Though Obama is down from the 16-point lead he held earlier in the month, he still holds a greater advantage over McCain than in all previous polls dating back to February. This is now the seventh straight poll Obama has held the lead in the state.

Michigan’s 17 Electoral College votes have gone to the Democratic candidates in the last four presidential elections.

The nominees are now tied among unaffiliated voters in Michigan at 46%. Two weeks ago, Obama led by 11 percentage points among that demographic. While Obama leads by double-digits among women in Michigan, men now favor McCain 49% to 47%. Just two weeks ago, Obama led 59% to 38% among men.

Looks like McCain is closing in Michigan. McCain should send Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin to Michigan for at a rally. It might just give them enough to push them within the margin of error for election day.

the article continued, “the fact that this poll was taken entirely within the city limits of detroit has nothing to do with the results we are publishing and advertising.”

obama wants to do for the country what the dems did to Detroit over the past 50 years.

Imagine... the WHOLE country turned into Detroit.

Has to be a pretty big Rat oversample to come up with a 10% lead then...

I wonder if 0 dropped his MI ads when McCain pulled out?

Wouldnt that be a hoot if McCain won Michigan.
I recommended a rally with Sarah, Todd, Mitt and the NUG.
Michigan would have loved it.

That’s a fairly important comment I would think. IOW, they only polled in an area where O should be really strong. Am I missing something?

“I wonder if 0 dropped his MI ads when McCain pulled out?”

Nope.
Two weeks after McCain quit running ads BO was airing them heavily. On a football Saturday I would say that I would see 20+ BO adds
The BO ads have just started to slow the last week.

That is great. I knew there were independent groups running some ads.

I think McCain concluded that no matter how well he’d do in the rest of MI, he’d never be able to overcome the Detroit fraud.

Final RCP average in 2004 was Kerry by 3.5. Rassmussen had Kerry by 4. Kerry won 51.3-46.1 Kerry by +5.2.

Rassmussen now showing McCain down 10 should bring no glee.

“Though Obama is down from the 16-point lead he held earlier in the month, he still holds a greater advantage over McCain than in all previous polls dating back to February”

That is as clear as dirt. Nice writing.

My husband almost rear ended someone on the way home from work in liberal Ann Arbor. He was so intent on doing a McCain vs. Obama sign count, that he nearly killed himself. By the way, once outside of Ann Arbor, McCain won the sign count 15 to 12.

On a football Saturday I would say that I would see 20+ BO adds

Last week, during a Red Wing game, every other commercial was an Obama ad (no exaggeration).

From what I see by the amount of signs in my area (Oakland County) it's running about 50-50 between O & McCain. Once you get out of the vicinity, it's about 70% for Bambi and it gets worse the closer you get to Detroit where it's close to 100%.

The Detroit Free Press runs front page stories about the glory of Obama almost every day and the local news is ALL Barrack, you'd think he was the only one running.

No way McCain wins Michigan.

No one said anything about winning. I posted this as an example of movement in the right direction. Minnesota is also closer in the latest polls. If the polls continue in this direction by election day we may see some of these blue states close within 4 or 5 points. This may help down ticket races. Also 527 ads are running in some of these states.

Michigan outside of 2006 always tightens up in the last week. It would have tightened up more if McCain planned this properly by:

1. Focusing more on the economy and tying Obama to Granholm and Andy Dillon

2. Knowing about Kwame Kilpatrick's sentencing and pushing the Obama/Kwame connection, running a controversial ad linking Obama's Chicago State Senate District to Detroit. These two democrats will do the same thing for the country and they accomplished for their districts.

3. Used Palin property. They never, ever, ever, should have shielded her from the media. They needed to let her define herself and run on her record as governor, not as a prop for social conservatives. We know her. The Independents did not and let others do the job the campaign should have done.

4. Second amendment.
