WaPo Lauds Obama Infomercial as 'Poetic and Practical, Spiritual and Sensible' (Barf)
Newsbusters ^ | October 30, 2008 | Tim Graham

Washington Post TV critic Tom Shales offered his own endorsement of Obama for President with an oozy review of Obama’s half-hour infomercial, which he called "Obamavision." That certainly was supposed to carry more than one meaning, including a tribute to Obama’s visionary politics. It wasn’t hidden in tiny type on the home page like yesterday’s sleaze-Internet-cash story. It stood out in bold lettering: "An Appeal to the Masses | Poetic and practical, Obama's paid political broadcast was a montage of montages." Shales was more syrupy than that in the full text:

Somehow both poetic and practical, spiritual and sensible, the paid political broadcast, which aired on seven major cable and broadcast networks (on Univision, it was identified as "Historias Americanas"), was a montage of montages, a series of seamlessly blended segments interweaving the stories of embattled Americans with visions of their deliverer, Guess Who.

While there was some rhetoric about the horrid last eight years, Shales later admitted, "Most of the talk was conversational in that laid-back, not-to-worry, calmly passionate, defiantly hopeful Obaman way."

I had a slightly different take...

Obama’s ad reminded me of the late nite TV colonic cleansing commercials.

And the only difference between a colonic cleansing infomercial and Obama’s infomercial is that in the first, the huckster promises to rid your body of poisons,
while in the latter, Obama, the huckster, secretly fills the body politic with poisons.

Anyone have the ratings for his “Audacity of Arrogance” program?

Curious to know how many were watching.

BTW, Shales is the WaPo's Michael Moore of Media.

The only way Tom is "in the tank" for Obama is if the tank is the size of an open cesspool.

I watched it and found it rather dull. There were many demonstable lies in it. 0bama tells one worker, who saw a reduction in his pension, he had paid money into it and deserved it back. They never said from where the man had retired, but I'm willing to bet it was a union negotiated pension the worker never paid a dime into. The spot further played up the so-called "loose nukes" 0bama-Lugar Senate Bill. In truth, the Nunn-Lugar bill addressed nuclear weapons. 0bama's emphasized MANPADS, or portable missiles and "other conventional weapons." Quote from Sen Lugar.......

"The United States should do more to eliminate conventional weapons stockpiles and assist other nations in detecting and interdicting weapons of mass destruction. We believe that these functions are underfunded, fragmented and in need of high-level support," said Lugar, Republican leader of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

"The Lugar-Obama initiative will help other nations find and eliminate conventional weapons that have been used against our own soldiers in Iraq and sought by terrorists all over the world," said Obama. "The Nunn-Lugar program has effectively disposed of thousands of weapons of mass destruction, but we must do far more to keep deadly conventional weapons like anti-aircraft missiles out of the hands of terrorists."

So he mesmerized his audience.

But what did he really SAY?

Words, empty words.

No one hears what he says, just the way he says it.

As others have said: PRAY . . . somewhere there’s a topic about praying and fasting on November 1 and 2.
