It seems that the final days of the presidential campaign have made Erica Jong and her friends more than a little anxious.
A few days ago, Jong, the author and self-described feminist, gave an interview to the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, the choicest bits of which were brought to my attention by the reliably sharp-eyed Christian Rocca, the U.S. correspondent of Il Foglio, who published excerpts on his Camillo blog. Basically, Jong says she her fear that Obama might lose the election has developed into an "obsession. A paralyzing terror. An anxious fever that keeps you awake at night." She also says that her friends Jane Fonda and Naomi Wolf are extremely worried that Obama will be sabotaged by Republican dirty tricks, and that if an Obama loss indeed comes to pass, the result will be a second American Civil War.
Here's a translation of Jong's more spirited quotes to the Milan-based Corriere, as selected by Rocca.

I will admit that I agree with her though. It doesn’t make me vote for Obama but it does make me get my ammo out of storage.
Talk about a blast from the past! We went to the same high school, although she was a few years before me and we never met. The only funny thing in her first book (the name of which I do not remember) had to do with a tampon...
But aside from that, she’s an idiot. Odd that all the idiots of this world should be flocking after Obama...
She said that to Corriere della Sera? I missed it. But the Italian MSM has been about as unfair and foolish as the MSM in the USA, with the difference that you have a richer and wilder and happier blogosphere and conservative talk radio to balance things. I’ve written to three major Italian papers, asking them for some balance, as in a little Rezko, Ayers, Odinga, Community organization hustling, Wright, vault birth certificates, past records, PLO support, live birth abortion, uncontrolled and illegal campaign donations, etc.
I’m aghast that such a patently malevolent figure could rise to such heights in the USA.

One need only to remember the Watts riots to KNOW that there will be rioting. The only question that remains is “how bad will it be?”
Two of my daughters live in a condo in downtown Seattle. Two weeks ago I asked them to come to my place in the ‘burbs on election night. If nothing happens, no big deal, but if it does, it will be good for them to be out of it.
I agree that if it happened it would and should be to reestablish the constitution as written because I believe his goal is to rewrite it and abridge all of our freedoms. However, there have been other posts here that have advocated that the red states just secede. There is no way that secession should ever be considered; that is what northern democrats wanted to do with the south, just let them go and don’t fight for the union and the constitution.
