McCain advisor Charles Fried defects to Obama (was Solicitor General under Reagan)
Harvard Law School Record ^ | 10/30/08 Section: Election 2008 | Chris Szabla

Professor Charles Fried, an advisor to John McCain's presidential campaign, has announced that he can no longer support the McCain/Palin ticket. In a letter to the general counsel to the McCain/Palin campaign, he cited McCain's choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate as too dangerous "at a time of deep national crisis", and has asked for his name to be removed from several campaign committees on which he has served. Fried also publicly stated that he had voted for Obama via absentee ballot.

Fried later clarified to The New Republic that he had voted for Obama because he no longer supported the McCain ticket, and did not consider abstention "a proper option".

Fried has been an influential voice in American conservatism and was appointed by President Ronald Reagan to serve as Solicitor General in 1985. During his years serving with the Reagan administration, he represented the White House in over 25 cases before the Supreme Court. Fried was later an associate justice on the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts. In the last decade, he has vocally supported George W. Bush's appointments of John Roberts and Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court.

With the exception of the above interruptions, Fried has taught at HLS, where he is known as an important theorist of contract law, since 1961. He has published extensively on a wide variety of topics, and is particularly known for his support of Kantian ethics.

He has joined a long line of Republicans, many of whom served in Republican presidential administrations, who have recently endorsed the Democratic candidate. These include former general and Secretary of State Colin Powell, former Massachusetts Governor William Weld '70, former Minnesota Governor Arne Carlson, and former George W. Bush press secretary Scott McClellan.

More likely he was blackmailed.

This election is acting like a great cleansing enema for the Republican party. If we win this election we can thank the “ONE” for outing these RINO’s from the closet.

Was this the guy who leaked such things to the press as— Sarah Palin had gone “rogue” and that she was causing problems, told the MSM how much her wardrobe cost? HA! Good riddance to Professor Traitor.

Oh, so he submitted his vote for Obama while still advising the McCain campaign?

What goes around will come around BIG TIME!

Charles brain has been fried. He no longer knows right from wrong, up from down or truth from lies. Sad. It has happened to many in America.

This guy and Reagan’s former Chief of Staff Durbrister (or something like that) are total rats. How they can turn on John this late is classless

He is sometimes described as a conservative, but his political views are perhaps better characterized as consonant with those of classical liberalism.

Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1935, Fried became a United States citizen in 1948.

******

We wouldn't want him left out of any of those ‘intellectual’ parties if he backed a ‘hick’ vice presidential candidate.

McCain advisor Charles Fried was paid $120,000 by the Obama campaign to defect.

He’s getting a job in Obama’s administration — it’s no wonder he decided to switch sides at join the democrats.

Like anybody cares.

I guess these bozos all figured that by holding their “defection” close to the vest until the last minute, it would have more impact. It actually will have virtually none at all, since most people either don’t remember them or have never heard of them in the first place. The few people who have were probably voting Dem anyway, like the rest of their country club “Republican” friends.

I guess they wanted their 15 microseconds of fame. Maybe it worked, because I sure wouldn’t have recalled any of these has-beens otherwise.

This is amazing. By her mere existence, Palin has driven the lefties, feminists, liberals and DeathBedMedia completely loony.

And she's already having a terrific effect in outing the RINO's, the cultural liberals and other loons in the GOP. Let the purge continue.

If you think Sarah Palin is a hick, you ought to join the brie and white wine elitists and leave the rest of us to kick some butt. Good bye, don't let the barn door hit you in the rear on your way out.

GO SARAH GO!

I agree. Think about it; why days before the election would a long-time conservative member of the McCain campaign defect publicly?

If you were mad enough about something you might quit, though so close to the end doesn't make sense. But if you quit this close to the end you'd keep your mouth closed at least until after election day out of simple decency.

Supporting rookie Obama because Palin is a rookie doesn't pass the smell test. It smells.

To: Comparative Advantage
Educated at Princeton, Oxford and Columbia Law School, Charles Fried is a well-known intellectual snob.

His bias against Sarah Palin appears to have something to do with her attendance at 5 different schools he never heard of.

He's going to burn in Hell even if he doesn't believe in it.

It was never the picking of Palin that has been the problem, it's the picking of McCain.
We should have our Palin 2012 bumper stickers on our vehicles this coming Wednesday. Heck with all the campaign crap in the future. We need our candidate picked and to start bashing a President Obama from day one and never letting up. If we keep at least 40 non-RINOs in the Senate block every vote and blame the Rats. They've been playing this game for 8 years with success so now it's time to beat them at their own game.

And operation “Wheat From Chaff” continues. Win or lose, we do not need people who will turn against their chosen party with such obvious pretext.

This is great to hear...

Gov Palin is serving as an effective insect repellent,
and McCain is beginning to realize he has a bug problem.
