Bio Terror 'Next Threat' For US
Sky News ^ | Oct. 31, 2008 | Mark White

Posted on 10/31/2008 8:24:36 PM PDT by FocusNexus

Nuclear and biological terrorism is the emerging threat the next US President should focus on, the US security chief has told Sky News.

In an exclusive interview, homeland security secretary Michael Chertoff said sources of radioactive and biological materials must be properly secured "at all costs".

He warned terrorists are actively seeking to acquire such materials.

Mr Chertoff said he did not think a weapon of mass destruction, like a biological or nuclear bomb, was a danger that could be just months away.

But he warned: "It may be years away and we can't afford to waste this time waiting for that event to happen.

"We've got to stay ahead of the issue of weapons of mass destruction, if not for our own benefit, then for the benefit of our children."

Neither at this point. Our lax immigration and border security policies have made it a certainty that something bad will happen down the road.

Your tagline is great!

Socialism is great until you run out of someone else’s money (M. Thatcher)

Margaret Thatcher is right. That’s what lead to the fall of the Soviet Union and Eastern European communist countries — but it took about 45 years.

U.S. Vulnerable During First Year of New President — Intelligence Chief

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2121442/posts

During a speech outlining the security problems the United States will face up to and through 2025, the Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell told an audience of intelligence officials and contractors yesterday that the U.S. is most vulnerable to attack during a new president’s first year in office.

This is so damn serious and most Americans are oblivious to the danger.

Saddam Hussein paid $2million for a suitcase of weaponized smallpox stolen by a Russian defector who had worked on bioweapons projects. She was paid the money and then disappeared to South America.

This was independently verified by two defectors unknown to one another: one a Russian, the other an Iraqi. Present whereabouts of the weaponized smallpox is unknown - is it in Syria? Or is it in Iran?

The above information became known in the 1990s and is the reason the U.S. has stockpiled smallpox vaccinae.

For anyone wanting specific details, read the book, “Demon in the Freezer”, by Richard Preston.

Say the words 'Weapons Of Mass Destruction' to any group of people, and see what their reaction is (cue the 'aw jeez, not this shit again' guy). Seven years of 'He lied about WMD!' propaganda came from which candidates side of the argument? The other candidate will be treated to 'more of the same',(this is what that slogan really means, I think) so McCain wins. He cracks down fast, gets the 'he lied' treatment. If anything of a WMD nature happens after that, he's vindicated and then has carte blanche to mop the floor with whoever he thinks is responsible.

The Soviets, with their economies of scale, manufactured variola in the tens of tons in the late seventies, early eighties. It was to be delivered via ICBM, as a complement to a massive nuclear strike. This tactic would ensure complete chaos and demoralization for years afterward. It's an extremely virulent strain that laughs at attempts at vaccination. All in violation of the bioweapons treaty, mind you. Some of this got loose over the Aral Sea during a test on Vozrozhdenye Island in September, 1971. A small epidemic occurred in Aralsk, a city on the north east arm(used to be, the sea shrank). Bad, bad stuff. One verified case of variola, anywhere on the planet, is now considered a global health emergency.

Why would Obama in any way genuinely be counted upon to defend this nation and its people when he has : 1) not defended the about-to-be-born, the being-born, and the just-born but, rather actively approved the slaying of them; and 2) has actively strove for U. S. defeat in Iraq???

He will be a fighter: even for the right to kill old people when they become a burden.

Okay - I know I’ve been on FR too long. Last night I had a dream that I was in some hallway with John McCain. He called me by name, then told me to take the family up in the mountains for a few weeks after the election. (Okay - I can understand that with all of the rioting and gun threads).

But then he says “And after a few weeks you can go back home and vomit.”

HUH!??? (Okay, I know its just a goofy dream, but.....)

Several interpretations went through my mind. One of which included chemical poisoning. Another had to do with who got elected! That - and don’t eat the spicy foods so late!

The tragedy is that McCain and all the Republicans have NOT talked about national security, the immense threats from the nation's enemies, and the very large successes in combating terrorism by the Bush Administration.

They have allowed the Democrats to determine the parameters and to establish the premises of the debate. This whole area is Republican strength - and it has been effectively neutered through Republicans not forcing the issue.

Here is a GREAT (and spooky) video of Obama cutting back on our military, interspersed with news items of China missle launches, chanting muslims, etc. VERY POWERFUL. It was on a FR thread earlier today.

And Biden said if Obama is elected, it would happen sooner, like the first six months.

Saw the video - excellent.

The themes are those that some of us have always thought that McCain and the Republicans should have been talking about every day during the election.

Basic themes of national security.

This is easily doable along side the public’s “interest of the moment”.

But they left all this and went to themes where Obama and the Democrats hold the playing field and set the parameters.
