Long lines to vote early (Colorado Springs, CO)

Big turnout meant big lines on the last day of early voting in Colorado. Thousands of people lined up at the three voting locations in Colorado Springs. Wait times exceeded 3 hours.

"I'm shocked," said Lisa Schmick as she joined the line at Centennial Hall where the line stretched out the door. "I thought everybody voted on the 4th. I thought ...'we're going to beat the lines coming early'".

The line there was so long some got frustrated and just gave up.

"It's pretty discouraging," said Louis Spicciati, who decided to leave and come back on November 4th. "You've got to wait for at least an hour in the hot sunshine before you can even get inside."

Election officials say the numbers were unprecedented. More than 37,000 people voted early in El Paso County, roughly 5,000 more than the 2004 election.

"It's a good thing for Election Day. It'll help ease the lines at the poll places," said Liz Olson, El Paso County Election Manager.

Olson said the county also issued a record number of mail-in ballots. "We've issued over 150,000 mail in ballots and have close to 100,000 of those back already."

Its the most Republican county in the nation. The El Paso turnout is ginormous!

Can someone post a picture of the people in line? If the people in line are poor but have gold teeth, we are in real trouble...

If they look like they have jobs, Obama is toast!

So 100k ballots are in already, with some 50,000 either to be mailed in, or about to be mailed in add in the 4th, and yeah, El Paso County is really stirred up.

I wonder what caused it?

"Vote early, vote often" - "The View" Oct/2008

It may take a couple days for ACORN operatives to travel around to all the different wards with that bundle of fake photo ID's to match all the dead people brought back to life to vote for Obama.

Don't worry about El Paso. I'd be more worried if that happened in CO's liberal armpit - Boulder.

This is very goods news. It looks like the turnout in “flyover” country is big. That for the most part is McCain/Palin territory.

Colorado mail in ballot the way to go - recieved it three weeks ago, voted two weeks ago, dropped it off in the ballot box in person last week (did not trust the USPS) and checked the Colorado Secretary of State website this week to ensure the ballot was received. Easy-Peasy....

For Colorado Springs McCain supporters, a convenient drop off point is in the DMV office Southeast of of Powers and Airport.

For Colorado Springs 0Bama supporters, a convenient drop off point for both of you is the landfill North of Space Village Road....

Colorado Springs, one of the most conservative cities in the US. Very few poor people to start with, probably only a dozen poor with gold teeth in the entire city.

We ain’t dun got none of them ones ‘round heah.

they drove down from Boulder just after Iraqi Freedom started and tried to have a protest. The Colorado Springs PD helped them clear their sinuses with a little tear gas, and they haven’t been back since....

Hmm I wonder who they’re voting for. They’re probably undecided McCain or Barr.

Voted two weeks ago and dropped in my absentee mail-in ballot in the mailbox in downtown Salida. Its part of history now and however the election turns out, I have no regrets.

Are You Going to Help?

There’s still time to help elect John McCain and Sarah Palin. This past weekend, I made phone calls through the volunteer online phone bank. I admit, I was uncomfortable cold-calling complete strangers on a Sunday afternoon. But it was ultimately a rewarding experience. There were people who still claimed to be undecided. There were also several Republicans who sounded like they needed a little encouragement to go to the polls. I like to think I made a difference.

In the middle of the afternoon, I blegged for advice because I was having a hard time talking to answering machines. As I expected, the wisdom of crowds made things much easier.

Please consider making phone calls on behalf of McCain/Palin 2008 in the next few days. The process is very easy. Sign up at the top link above (I’m fairly certain you don’t even have to use a real email addy if you don’t want to get GOP emails) and within minutes the website will provide you with names, locations, phone numbers and scripts. (I think the hours are from 9am to 9pm Eastern.)

You generally get to choose the state you’d like to make calls to, so if you have free long distance like me, you can help out with some of the battleground states. My suggestions are Colorado, Ohio, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

I’m tucking some advice from last weekend under the fold. Read it first and then get calling. I challenge each of you to make at least twenty phone calls. It won’t take that long and it may make a difference on Tuesday. I’m going to be calling again this weekend too.

Later: I want to emphasize that you can make calls from the comfort of your own home. This is so easy to do, there’s just no excuse for not helping.

Get the names and numbers from the McCain/Palin website. Call in between loads of laundry. Call while you’re waiting for dinner to be done. Call after you put the tot down for her afternoon nap. Do what I did and call while you’re blogging. I know you guys spend countless hours just sitting in front of your computer. You could use a little of that time to call voters.

you can confirm that the Sec State has recored your ballot on their website. If not, I think you can fill out a provisional ballot.
