WASHINGTON (AP) — Barack Obama's aunt, a Kenyan woman who has been quietly living in public housing in Boston, is in the United States illegally after an immigration judge rejected her request for asylum four years ago, The Associated Press has learned.
Zeituni Onyango, 56, referred to as "Aunti Zeituni" in Obama's memoir, was instructed to leave the United States by a U.S. immigration judge who denied her asylum request, a person familiar with the matter told the AP late Friday. This person spoke on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to discuss Onyango's case.
Information about the deportation case was disclosed and confirmed by two separate sources, one of them a federal law enforcment official. The information they made available is known to officials in the federal government, but the AP could not establish whether anyone at a political level in the Bush administration or in the McCain campaign had been involved in its release.
Onyango's refusal to leave the country would represent an administrative, non-criminal violation of U.S. immigration law, meaning such cases are handled outside the criminal court system. Estimates vary, but many experts believe there are more than 10 million such immigrants in the United States.
The AP could not reach Onyango immediately for comment. No one answered the telephone number listed in her name late Friday. It was unclear why her request for asylum was rejected in 2004.

Seriously, though, it looks to me like just another variation on “community organizer.” Boston seems to be shot through with these groups (although it appears that the education program she was involved with was actually a federally sponsored group).
So Obama’s aunt was being supported by the taxpayers of Boston while she worked as a “community organizer,” hmmm? Personally, I can’t believe he didn’t know about her, and I suspect somebody there may have helped her get this housing. She has a choice ground-floor apartment and things certainly seem to have gone smoothly for her transition from Kenya to US welfare, even though she supposedly has job skills. But I guess if she’s one of the leading cadre in her neighborhood, that makes up for it.

Her title, “computer systems coordinator”, sounds like she might have been the admin who kept up with serial numbers on computers issued out, and such.
This nation pays for their food, medical, housing, clothes and ipods. Heck, in some cultures that would be considered owning someone.

Was thinking along the same lines. . .when Rush was speaking of her yesterday; I thought he was going to announce that since Obama had fogotten to send her check in the mail; that he would. Alas. . .neither Rush or Hannity has gone here.
Yes, I doubt that she did anything particularly high-level. But she does seem to have been employable (heck, at least most illegal immigrants actually work) until somebody got her the apartment and the community organizer gig.

Obama will deny any knowledge of his aunt being here illegally. Next, he will claim that with all the small contributions coming in, it is impossible to sort out such contributions from someone who is illegal.

Didn’t Rush mention that Obama’s people actually dismantled the software that keeps out illegal contributions? Where are the campaign regs that McCain told us would stop all this stuff?

That whole statement sounded so phony and canned that it was ludicrous. I bet Obama is looking hard for the (British) reporter that broke this story so he can throw him off the plane (while it's in the air).
