Obama aunt from Kenya living in US illegally

WASHINGTON (AP) — Barack Obama's aunt, a Kenyan woman who has been quietly living in public housing in Boston, is in the United States illegally after an immigration judge rejected her request for asylum four years ago, The Associated Press has learned.

Zeituni Onyango, 56, referred to as "Aunti Zeituni" in Obama's memoir, was instructed to leave the United States by a U.S. immigration judge who denied her asylum request, a person familiar with the matter told the AP late Friday. This person spoke on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to discuss Onyango's case.

Information about the deportation case was disclosed and confirmed by two separate sources, one of them a federal law enforcment official. The information they made available is known to officials in the federal government, but the AP could not establish whether anyone at a political level in the Bush administration or in the McCain campaign had been involved in its release.

Onyango's refusal to leave the country would represent an administrative, non-criminal violation of U.S. immigration law, meaning such cases are handled outside the criminal court system. Estimates vary, but many experts believe there are more than 10 million such immigrants in the United States.

The AP could not reach Onyango immediately for comment. No one answered the telephone number listed in her name late Friday. It was unclear why her request for asylum was rejected in 2004.

This is hilarious! Does this mean Obama has an “Auntie” (rather than “nanny”) problem?

I’m wondering about her connections with Kenyan politics.

My take is she could care less..... Her main interest is to live here, retire here instead of living in Kenya in poverty.

Obama’s family is Muslim, so kinship is complicated because of polygamy, but if Odinga is Obama’s cousin and this woman is his aunt, what is the relationship between Odinga and the aunt? (She’s probably not his mother, but there must be some relationship.)

I thought somebody probably got her on SSI, too. And since there’s a long wait for those federally subsidized apartments for the “elderly” (she would have been 52 at the time) and she got one after being here only a year, she was clearly jumped ahead of other people and there’s something funny going on.

REFUGEE STATUS---- As a refugee she jumps the line, I'm pretty sure. She sought asylum so may still be (mistakenly) listed as a refugee
My guess is that is how she did it or a kickback to some public housing honcho

She said she comes and goes from America since 1975? so she's met people who can help her and she's learned the ropes and knows how to retire here

“She’s probably laying low until Tuesday when she figures Obama will take care of her.”

Possibly not - ‘cause Barak Husein Obama treats his relatives
as the potential political liabilities which they are. His half brother in the Turd World slum, now an aunt who is both an illegal immigrant AND a welfare case.

Gotta love the Democrapic mind, and the endless scandals they create; truly, they make a writer’s life easy.

But the thing is that she didn’t get refugee status. Her application was rejected by the court, and she simply didn’t leave the country as she had been ordered to do. She was already illegal at the time she got into public housing, in that case.

Oops, I sent my post before I had finished it. Apparently, according to a post here, the head of Boston’s public housing has some kind of connection with a non-profit very involved with Obama. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a direct favor to Obama.

***Zeituni Onyango’s refusal to leave the country would be an administrative violation, not a criminal matter.***

This is the reason CNN claims they won't run the story outside their blog.

"For a vote, he’d sell us out in a heartbeat and put tens of millions of illegal aliens and their families on our shores and benefits."

Ha...methinks he would import several thousand of his yout tribe members...complete with AK47s, machetes, and a box of matches for the "Nigerian Necklace"....sort of an 0bambi Praetorian guard and general enforcers.

Sure but due to bureaucrat sloppiness she may still be listed as a refugee
Bureaucrats and Democrats love sloppy impenetrable messes ..... very hard to investigate malfeasance

***Onyango’s case — coming to light just days before the presidential election — led to an unusual nationwide directive within Immigrations and Customs Enforcement requiring that any deportations before Tuesday's election be approved at least at the level of the agency's regional directors, the U.S. law enforcement official told the AP.

The unusual directive suggests that the administration is sensitive to the political implications of Onyango’s case coming to light so close to the election.***

WTF? Get the illegal out of this country now and charge Obama with harboring a known fugitive!

The non profit could care less if she is legal alien. That’s the key. Plus the non profit people know the Boston Housing bureaucrats and schmooze and exchange Christmas gifts and pay kickbacks to get her and others to the head of the list

And I forgot to mention that he’s best buds with Deval Patrick. Sorry, but I think this will probably go beyond the usual bureaucratic snafu that lets people slip by. Nothing ever happens normally or by accident around Obama.

See post 338. It was in other articles on this subject that have been posted, some articles saying that $ 300.00 was contributed, but the correct number, I believe, is $ 260.00.

Since when is the result of court hearings, the exact same courts which are paid for and maintained by E plebnista not disclosed to us, or to anyone who wants to know?

This sentence in the news story seems to equate a court result with what happened in several of Ohio's civil agencies with respect to Joe der Klempner.
