A federal trapper continues hunting for the wolves that have now killed five cows in the Big Hole Valley.
Graham McDougal with U.S. Wildlife Services hasn't been able to kill any wolves from the pack, said Carolyn Sime, wolf program manager with the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks. The pack has killed five cows and injured another ...
Sime said ...she understands why Giem is frustrated with the problem but the wolves have remained elusive.
"I share his frustration," she said. "It's one of those tough deals where wolves are just running around so much that it's really hard to get the job done..."
The wolves began attacking Giem's cattle early last month. So far, officials have confirmed five cattle were killed by the wolves, including two on his property and three on public land where he holds grazing leases.
Giem blasted state officials for what he said was a lackluster response to the attacks. He called FWP's wolf program "impotent" in dealing with a problem that is costing him more than $20,000 in lost cattle and feed.
"How many cattle do we have to lose before we identify this pack as a severe problem?"
Giem said the loss is not limited to the cattle. He counts on that area as summer and fall pasture ...
This year, his herd has been run out of those pastures by the wolves. He said his herd trampled through fences and ...
"We moved them because the cattle were all balled up in a corner," he said. "They're not feeding and they're just terrified."

Helicopters would work.
Apaches definitely!
What’s wrong with the old method of shoot them on sight? Better - allow hunters in to shoot them.
But that would rile up the Enviro-Nazi PETA-type idiots.
Deer are killing folks in our town...CAR ACCIDENTS and they're finally having a bow hunt.
I always laugh when I see Deer Crossing signs cuz........"DEER CAN'T READ"!!!
Canadian wolves imported and managed at American taxpayer expense.
Life time job security for USFWS staff.
I liked what the ranchers did in NM when they released 20 some-odd wolves in the mountains there... the ranchers hunted them all down and shot every one of them. I know some of those guys, and they told the feds that if they released them, they would be killed.
I don’t care what enviro and AR nutjobs say or F&W, wolves should not be reintroduced, period!
And now..... The rest of the story:
Working harder to pay more taxes so the chair seat polishers in the federal government can use the tax money to introduce predator wolves onto the range to kill the cattle that are the rancher's livelihood and generate the income that is taxed.
Ayn Rand was right!

When caribou migration comes thru, there's always wolves following the migration, actually part of the migration. That's when you can see wolves most anywheres there's caribou; I usually see alot of single wolves with the caribou, easy livin for the wolves.
