Palin Pranked by Sarkozy Impersonator
Washington Post ^ | November 1, 2008 | Mary Ann Akers

Posted on 11/01/2008 4:10:30 PM PDT by Pinkbell

Two well-known Canadian pranksters tricked Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin into thinking she was on the phone today with French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The conversation, captured on a Montreal radio program, was, in a word, embarrassing. (Politico's Ben Smith was among the first to pick up on reports from The Canadian Press.)

The fake Sarkozy buttered Palin up by telling her he hoped she would become president some day. "Haha, maybe in eight years," Palin replied. Then the conversation turned to helicopter hunting, with a mention of Vice President Dick Cheney's infamous bad shot.

"One of my favorite activities is to hunt, too," the fake Sarkozy said. "Oh, very good, we should go hunting together," Palin replied, adding, "I think we could have a lot of fun together as we're getting work done. We could kill two birds with one stone that way."

"I just love killing those animals! Taking away life, that is so fun," the Sarkozy impersonator said.

Palin laughed.

"As long as we don't bring Vice President Cheney," the jokester said. "I'll be a very careful shot, don't worry," Palin said, laughing.

It’s not her supporters stirring the pot here.

I've been poking fun at Palin just to see how few Freepers were intellectually honest enough to admit that.

I think you're the second. My kudos to you. The election has not zapped all of your brain cells. :)

OK, now run along over to DU and poke some fun at Biden and get back to us.

OK, not really, I was just poking fun...just run along back to DU.

That doesn’t surprise me. I don’t have cable, so I’m not able to see it. It’s probably just as well.

Have you listened to the entire conversation yet? Because, I can assure you that the sale will be made once you listen to it. :)

However, the man has a breadth of knowledge that Palin does not have,

Oh, for Pete's sake. "I’ve forgotten more about foreign policy than most of my colleagues know." Who talks like that?

Biden is Fredo Corleone from The Godfather. "I'm schmot!"

When I first heard that Palin was picked as McCain's running mate I was both excited and intrigued. Truthfully, I didn't know anything about the woman. And then I listened to her at multiple events reciting the same lines over and over again like a parrot...

I think Gov. Palin has a lot of great qualities but in no way is she ready to lead the country. I think McCain showed a serious lack of judgment when he chose her. That's not saying that I won't vote for him given the alternative, but I do think he turned off a lot of independent voters. Are people actually serious about Palin running in 2012? If picking Sarah Palin is the best that the GOP can do to fire up the base, I'll be looking for an Independent party in 2012.

Who talks like that?

Joe Blow, of course. What do you think politicians sound like? LOL

Same here. I'm one of those "heathen" mainstream Chrsitians that Liddy Dole apparently thinks isn't a christian at all. Not to mention most freepers.

If we have to sink this low to appeal to the fundamentalist base, I'm out of here.

You betcha!

I’m confused. I don’t think people shouldn’t be able to disagree, and I’m not screaming TROLL or anything. I just don’t know why you go to so much trouble for Obama and Biden and call Sarah Palin “stupid” and a “dolt”.

TS seems to be doing a lot of that, but when you present facts to show TS wrong, TS just scurries to another thread and tries the same tactics.

I appreciate she’s in good company with the other leaders...but, her staff member should be fired or demoted.

In the White House, a call wouldn’t originate this way so that’s not a concern.

That’s the thread I couldn’t think of!

The one where TS was defending Obama and his photoshoot.

Thanks, I knew there was one that that name looked familiar.

Hey, Texas_shutterbug, Palin is hardly dumb, but you are very much an a$$hole for characterizing her that way...

So here's the set up - Palin is on the campaign trail and one of her aides who is responsible for such things receives a phone call on a private cell phone that is reported to Palin by that aide as being from an important foreign leader... and then hands Palin the phone.

As could be readily seen, the error was made by the aide in not screening the call more critically... Aides make such mistakes, and they come and go. (Just look at the Obama campaign, the Bush administration and the Clinton Administration for examples of this reality)

What's important is that Palin handled herself professionally and with great dignity in light of the ruse perpetrated on her.

It was obvious only a couple of minutes into that call that Palin sensed something was fishy. Some of the comments from the fake “Sarkozy” were obviously not appropriate, but she still maintained a respectful tone and and patient spirit. She actually handled herself amazingly well whether it was really Sarkozy or a prankster...

Spin, baby, spin!

It ain't working. She was giggling like a school girl - there was nothing in the conversation that was remotely "professonal."

"a respectful tone and patient spirit?"

ROFLOL

I agree with what you said. You can tell early on that she was suspicious by the way she laughed at certain things that were said. She probably figured it was a Halloween prank and she played along beautifully.

I personally think Palin is smarter than most people give her credit for, but I would support her over our opponents even if she had an IQ of 50. She’s smart enough to figure out who are our nation’s enemies. Obama and Biden seem to think the U.S. is the enemy. There is no doubt Sarah loves this country. Obama has shown by his actions and his associates his distaste for our nation, capitalism, and the Constitution. Palin understands the importance of a strong military, while Obama wants to create some kind of “civilian security force” that rivals our military. Palin has done more than talk about her commitment to life. She has demonstrated her respect for life in a tangible, loving way. Obama doesn’t lose any sleep about babies dying in soiled utility rooms. The choice is clear.

I agree. I’m surprised the staff just handed the call right over to her without checking for sure.

I would love to be able to measure the IQs of all the morons voting for Obama who say Palin is dumb. “But, but, but...he’s a great salesman...he sold me!”

What a bunch of dolts!! The “Masked Avengers”? More like the Blind Morons. For someone who thought she was talking to the real person, she was professional and courteous and very polite.

Those bafoons were trying to be funny, but they were very very very far from it. It was a tacky lame attempt at tom foolery.

Big Whoop!
