Big Early Vote Leads for McCain in Florida
Political Machine ^ | Oct 31, 2008 | Mark Impomeni

Democrats are touting early leads in turnout for early voting in Florida. But a new poll that counts actual votes cast in the early balloting gives Sen. John McCain a four point lead among those who have already voted in the Sunshine State. The Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll of early voters shows McCain ahead 49-45%.Democrats outnumber Republicans by 54-30% in the party identification of early voters, according to figures released by the Democratic Party of Florida. Those numbers are not showing up in the voting this far.

More good news for McCain can be found in the the absentee vote tally. Republican registrants lead Democrats by a huge margin, 50-30%, in the over 1.2 million absentee ballots returned this far. Florida has a large active duty military population, many of whom vote by absentee ballot from stations overseas. That typically gives Republican candidates a large vote advantage in state wide elections.

An anecdotal example of why these early voting Dem to Republican counts should not be that worrisome:

In 2004, Jacksonville as a whole voted for Bush over Kerry 58 to 42%. But I researched this very interesting statistic — in 2004, Kerry slaughtered Bush in Jacksonville in early voting, 57% to 43%. (This figure does not appear to include absentee ballots, which were likely favorable to Bush) So, a Kerry early vote lead of 14% turned into an overall loss of 16% or a 30% swing all in all.

As of Saturday, Obama led McCain in early voting (I am excluding absentee votes so we are comparing apples to apples) by a 52 to 30% margin. If McCain supporters state-wide are like Bush supporters were in Jacksonville in 2004, they are not early voters. They are election day voters and, to a lesser extent, absentee voters. If Jacksonville voters turned a significant early voting deficit into a significant election day win, it seems reasonable to conclude that McCain voters can do the same.

Oh, this news warms the cockles of my heart!

A number of freepers from the Central Florida Chapter are gathering tonight at Chez Leni for a "Election Night Victory Party". We'll watch the returns.....and it either will be the agony or the ecstacy, a wake or a blowout.

I'm betting on the latter!

Yes, we'll be taking some pictures so you can share the thrill of VICTORY!

“Jews who don’t swallow the Obama lies about Israel”

Unfortunately, many Jews are LIBERALS first, and more afraid of Christians than Muslims.

Collectivist regimes always need an “enemy” to explain why their system isn’t producing Utopia for everyone.

With 0bama’s Farrakhan connection... well...

We need to fight to extend time for Overseas voting of Military only so that loyal men and women are allowed the chance to vote. And more importantly to allow all of their votes to be counted!!!!

In 2004, Democratic Governor Eddie Rendell of Pennsylvania attempted to cutoff the military vote.

He was asked to meet with Cardinal Rigali shortly after this... Speculation/rumor at the time was that President Bush and the Department of Justice wanted to send a message to Gov. Rendell. They decided to use a neutral source -- Cardinal Rigali.

Believe it or not!!!

I agree.

There isn’t supposed to be any vote totals with early voting. I was under the impression the votes aren’t even tallied until election day.

Could be wrong but that was my impression: your vote isn’t actually counted until all votes are in.

Is that wrong??

Another poster said it’s telephone polling of those who’d already voted.

Let’s just be cautiously optimistic.

Anyone watching MSDNC this morning would have heard the exact oppostie. In fact, Joe Scarborough quoted an unnamed RNC person from FL saying that “it is as good as over”. Joe finally made the leap to spouting off for the propagandists.....in spite of evidence to the contrary such as this.

Polling so far, not voting. This guy is taking the equivalent of exit poll results as gospel.

Complacent? I can’t sleep! No problem eating, I’ve gained 5 lbs since this crap started.

A guy at work gave me the “why do you care so much?” line and I sort of went off. Told him this is the most important election of my lifetime, maybe ever. Tried to explain that this guy could be a dictator. That nobody thinks that can happen but nobody thought 9/11 could happen or the financial meltdown.

“The major story behind a McCain win will be the number of Dems not voting for Obama.”

EXACTLY! Two of my coworkers are registered Dems and when they do report to the polling station they are going to be counted as registered Dems but both of them told me that they voted for McCain. One because he didn’t want to share the wealth and the second because she was a Clinton supporter and she is still mad as hell on how she was treated by the Obama camp.

I couldn’t believe it when both told me that they voted for McCain. You literally had to picked me off the floor because of whom they voted for!

Yes there still hope that McCain will take our State of Florida!
