Palin Plans to Remain on GOP's National Stage
The Washington Post ^ | Nov 5, 2008 (From the future, it seems) | Juliet Eilperin

Even if he loses his presidential bid, John McCain bequeathed an invaluable gift to his running mate, Sarah Palin: the national prominence that could allow her to compete for the GOP's nomination in 2012.

While the Alaska governor has avoided speculating on a future presidential bid in recent interviews, she has made it clear that she intends to remain an important player within the party. And the national following she has developed among the conservative faithful over the past couple of months provides her with the sort of political and fundraising base that could support a run.

If Palin does seek the White House, her campaign would be far different from McCain's. The senator from Arizona launched his presidential bid in 2007 with the aim of establishing a more inclusive, enduring Republican majority for the 21st century that would include Latinos, conservative Democrats and independents. Palin, by contrast, has sketched out a far more conservative vision for the GOP, one of American exceptionalism in which free-market capitalism and traditional social values remain paramount.

Notwithstanding the Post dateline of tomorrow, and the election not yet being over lets explore a hypothetical scenario where Obama wins. How about a thread about the future with some hope in it?

The RINOs will embark on demonizing conservatism as the reason McCain (the consummate moderate!) lost. They will try mightily to pull the party to the left and that means jettisoning Palin, Jindal, other conservative standard bearers. If it happens, will find themselves on the outside as the libs in the party are the real republicans and the conservatives are the RINOs. Of course then the GOP will be a minority party for another decade or more if this goes down. Let's hope it doesnt and the GOP provides a home for conservatives in 2010 and 2012. It's their only hope IMHO.

Now on to 2012. Palin is awesome but she's going to have to focus on a couple of things. First, the lib media is going to tell everyone for four years that any problems John McCain had were because of her. This is the opposite of the truth but it will be the blueprint of marginalizing her. Second, the lefty media has spun her as a bubble headed beauty queen. She needs to find a way to smash that perception by doing something substantive and high profile. Just finishing her term won't be enough, the MSM will yawn and keep laughing at her. She will have to take it head on, show her smarts and stay in the public eye or she becomes a footnote. I hope she can do it.

Personally, I liked Mitt Romney and thought he would be good but I think some of his true colors are coming out and he seems more and more to me an opportunist. He will jump back towards the left and is already (reportedly) working to torch Palins rep. He is over for me.

Bobby Jindal will be a real possibility to field a conservative candidate too. Well spoken, very competent, and of course conservative. Good combo.

And more good news to take out of this hypothetical scenario where Obama wins:

Hillary Clinton is toast, her future hopes for a white house run are over.

Finally, what becomes of "maverick" John McCain? Well, his love affair with the press is over, the dems in the Senate won't want need to play nice with him anymore once they have a resounding majority, and he has no shot at another presidential run. Personally, I held my nose and voted for him but I hope should he lose he serves out his term and retires.

Okay, what say ye?

We need to make Sarah our presidential candidate in 2012! Our party needs her and our country needs her! We need to work hard these next 4 years and not let the Obama/Reid/Pelosi regime trash her.

We STILL have hope!

The only other option I see is a real 3rd party that is headed by guess who, Hillary Clinton. That way, she gets to run in 2012. She still has lots of supporters.

Anyway, that’s one of my theories.

Sarah was the only reason I was enthusiastic about his election.

I’m thinking of how pissed the rats were over W’s elections and how they must have felt and what they did about it. They got to work and reshaped themselves and the electorate. Of course, they had the media on their side and we may never have that. However, if we keep up the pressure and BO’s changes are as horrible as we think then we, IF we are organized and relentless, can be like the Phoenix and rise from these ashes.

Our character is being tested.

Sarah is the future. Throw Jindal with her and it will be incredible.

Sarah Palin is a Joe the Plumber. She’s one of us not one of the political insiders.

Palin is now the standard bearer of the conservative movement. A number of moderate republicans have been wrung out of the party, including, now, McCain. And good riddance.

As for the future. Boehner needs to go. Pence should lead the house. McConnell has survived to irritate the hell out of Harry Reid. I suggest they make them read every word of every page of every bill until they go crazy. It would take a couple of months to read Ted Kennedy’s prospective health bill.

In the mean time, Palin should play the role of Nixon after 64 and Reagan after 76. Recruiting and campaigning for candidates in 2010.

3 THINGS:

1- ONLY Republicans MUST vote in Republican Primaries (This is essential)

2- GOP/REP MUST STOP electing “BUMBLERS” people who DONT know how to freaken talk....Look at Obama ZERO experience and now he is President....

3- GET DIRT on MSM people...BECAUSE THEY WILL BE in the TANK for Obama in 2012.....

For 2012 they will say “BUSH CAUSED SUCH a PROBLEM that it will take more than 4 years...bla bla bla...”

Trust me Bush’s Name will COME up again in 2012....Because they will CONTROL the Senate and the HOUSE...SO BLAME BUSH for 2012....

THE #2 is the MOST IMPORTANT

Now that the election is decided, I look for Pope Benedict to invite Sarah Palin to Rome or honor her in some way. He couldn't do it before the election for obvious reasons. Of course, it won't do any good, but I'd like to see it.

I don't know what her political future will be. McCain will probably return to finish his term in the Senate, don't know if he will run for re-election or not.

Sarah is great, but I’m not ready to make her the favorite for 2012. Four years is a long time.

I don’t think its a good idea for Palin to run again for 2012. She’s been savaged this election by the media. Alot of the myth about her still lingers in the public e.g banning books. Her image and style needs a makeover and the economy needs to be really bad for 2012 before she could have a chance

Face it folks. Americans are very stupid, and greedy. Unfortunately they can’t tell a lie when they hear one. The next four years are going to be painful. I you have any money in the market you better have your sell order in at the opening bell. We will see a 2K drop in the DOW within the first hour. Gas will be at $10 in six months. We went through this with Carter. It seems we have to teach every generation just how bad it can be. The only bright spot is there may be another Regean on the horizon, hello Sarah Palin. Too bad she had to be attached with a near dead pansy like McCain but at least that put her on the national radar. Lets do everything we can to help Obama screw things up so the stupid ars Americans who voted for him regret it big time.

"The reservations some voters have about Palin intensified over time in the Washington Post-ABC News poll. In the survey released Monday night, 44 percent of likely voters said McCain's choice of Palin as his running mate makes them less apt to vote for the GOP ticket. That is more than double the number who said they were drawn to McCain because of Palin, and an increase from a month ago. More than half of all independents tilt away from McCain because of Palin."

I don't believe the above numbers. It's the reverse.

For the umpteenth time, Romney has done nothing to ruin Palin's rep. They are the two brightest stars in the Republican party and we need to utilize both of them.

Sarah has made a good entrance onto the national stage but to remain there and have a chance in 2012, she will need to come up with original ideas on how to make the nation better.
