What happened to the moderates and independents?

One of McCain's selling points was that he was going to attract moderates and independents. Did they simply not go for him or was there not enough?

The moderates and independents broke for the proud liberal over the RINO, which is usually the case.

Not enough to make up for the conservative base that would not support McCain. It will be very interesting to see a comparison between Bush’s 2004 turn out and McCain’s 2008 turn out.

I’m probably a moderate independent. No card, but I see myself that way.

I worked hard for McCain.

There are just more ignorant, shallow, self-centered voters in this country than there are reasonable, intelligent ones.

Not in a good mood tonight, just telling it like it is. ;-)

"What happened to the moderates and independents?"

They bought into the "cult of personality". If he looks and sounds good, he must be good. Pfft.

They are soft supporters that generally support the candidates depending on what issues they are thinking about. That means they support dems when they care about the economy and republicans when they care about national security and values.

This election was about the economy by a huge margin.

Mac would’ve won them had the financial crisis not happened. As it is ... no go.

I'm guessing they did what most empty headed, indecisive, people usually do on election day... Stayed home and watched the news to see who won.

I think it was more what Obama did right and that is that he portrayed himself as center right and no one really challenged this at all in the media or interfered with the truth—that he is the most liberal senator.

Uh, the conservative base showed up due to Palin. She drew huge crowds. It’s the wishy-washy moderates that mostly fled due to the “historic” nature of this election and the economy.

We just elected an ACORN attorney so we’ll see how well freedom does in the future.

You’ll note he won being pro tax cuts, antiabortion, pro gun ownership and pro defense.

His voting record shows that he voted exactly the opposite of what he told the American people his stand was.

But the fact that he lied on this issues shows that America is still conservative at heart though a little stupider than I’d hoped.

So like the last time we put a ‘Rat in office he is an exceptionally good liar.

Rush was right . . . they’re not worth the powder to blow them to hell. Stick to our principles and let the dishrags flap in the breeze.

What happened to moderates and independents? Obama’s a Democrat. Democrats usually promise free things for stupid people. Therefore Obama received many votes from moderates and independents.

Good point. McCain talking about going across the aisle every five minutes didn’t help attract anyone to him. You think he would have gotten that early on and moved on to something that did work. That is what chameleon, full on politician Obama did.

THIS JUST IN TO FREE REPUBLIC BREAKING NEWS:

McCain just isn't a very motivating guy.

I mean, shit hell, I personally spent months around here pretending I actually had a favorable disposition towards that tired-ass old RINO.

What did you think was going to happen?

Yep. Yep. and Yep. Thanks for your hard work though. I am not a moderate independent, but I respect where you are at. I totally agree about the shallow, self centered voters and ignorant ones. They were clueless draw by the little fire fly and not willing to use their brains.

When it comes to sticking to your principles, I think I’ll have to agree with Rush on this one.
