. . .
NEWSWEEK has also learned that Palin's shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain's top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her familyclothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent "tens of thousands" more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as "Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast," and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.
A Palin aide said: "Governor Palin was not directing staffers to put anything on their personal credit cards, and anything that staffers put on their credit cards has been reimbursed, like an expense. Nasty and false accusations following a defeat say more about the person who made them than they do about Governor Palin."
. . . Palin asked to speak along with McCain at his Arizona concession speech Tuesday night, but campaign strategist Steve Schmidt vetoed the request.

Palin has said that she didn't but the clothes but now the campaign staff, unnamed of course, are trying to say she not only bought all those clothes herself she also bought tens of thousands of clothes for her family on the campaign's tab.
McCain's campaign people disgust me.
I stopped believing Newsweak when I cancelled my subscription in ‘91.
LIES.....LIARS....McCain surrounds himself with LIARS.
I am DONE with these RINOs and FAKE Conservatives that bash Sarah Palin.
She alone is BETTER than all of them put together.
May these “unnamed” staffers burn in Heck!
Romneybots who infiltrated the McCain campaign
Nice....
Wasilla HILLBILLIES????? I DETEST these Country Club Republicans.......why don’t we start the CONSERVATIVE PARTY and have the OWL as our mascot.
The Newsweek staff are trying to say...
The "campaign" staffers probably don't exist.
Newsweak==lies.
What do you expect? They are moderates and don’t like conservatives!
We will probably start seeing allot of this in the coming days and weeks.
The ‘Drive Bys’ and RINOS on our side need to find a way to get McCain back into the fold in DC. They will do this by scapegoating Palin on many fronts, and create a narrative that she was the reason McCain lost. McCain will give it all token rejection, but won’t totally shoot it down.
Count on it!
No one, and I mean NO ONE subsrcibes or reads this fishwrap other than uppper East/West NYC. Hey Newsweak, F you!
I don’t buy any of this-especially Newsweek.
I will add that I think the liberal media is out to ruin Sarah’s chances in 2012. She is the best hope for the Republicans and they know it.
I believe they also had Bush campaign people trying to “handle” her as well.
so why do you post this crap, haven’t you people learned anything?
McCain no longer exists politically. Neither does anyone on his staff. We have moved on.
Looks like Newsweek doesn’t know what to do with themselves unless they’re trumping up (more) reasons to bash conservatives.
I agree.
Sarah Palin is the one thing I think the McCain campaign did right . . . much to their chagrin.
We don’t know for sure what McCain staffers may have said. Newsweak may have simply made this up. Or another possibility is that the guys who screwed up Sarah’s first weeks after the Convention, keeping her from the press and arranging two stupid interviews on TV with a couple of leftist losers—and then were removed from that job but unfortunately retained in the campaign—are doing a little payback because their noses are out of joint.
But, yes, they are determined to destroy Sarah. And, I would add, they would have done the same thing to any other VP candidate McCain had named, as they did to Dan Quayle.
Why'd you bump it?
We need a list of saboteurs, and “keyword” it. In 2 or 4 years, we’ll have all the research points we need.
