Excellent idea. But you can’t use the same tactics and pitches that have become tired over the past 30 or 40 years. They need to be freshened up and relevant to the world today.
If you read the fine details of the Contract with America, they kept their promises. Americans got together once and voted on the Constitution, we can do it again to fix the bad change we made in 1913.
I hoped somebody would come up with a better name for my pitch but 60 posts later nobody has come up with one!
I posted a plan for that too many years ago and it was ignored. It was a combination of tax credits and vouchers designed to privatize the schools. I still think it would fix it.
How about, "A Declaration of Independence?"
Well, if they'd have actually followed through with the last Contract with America, I could certainly be more jazzed about another one. A balanced budget amendment would be a great start. So would a line item veto. Since the 'Pubbies failed on so many of the measures in the last contract, I think another contract could be successfully beaten back simply by the 'Rats arguing that it's a gimmick. We also need a leader who can clearly articulate Conservative principles and right now I don't see anyone taking on that task. Boehner certainly doesn't seem up to it.....
My favorite line in the original is this:

Perhaps we could call it "the Redelcaration of Independence"?

Have government get out of the way and it will come back just fine. Spring follows winter without any government tinkering.
We should draft Rush and make Ann Coulter his VP, that way if they won the RATS would feel like we do now!
I agree Mike Pence. (I fell like a broken record on this), but I think it’s important we get thi idea out and call our reps./call talk radio/write letters to the editor/blog/contact conservative personalities/talk to neighbors/email over this idea of new conservative leadership in the House and Senate!! now.

I only speak for myself. At the point where I made my reply, 20+ others had already replied. I could logically assert that "nobody" else had read the post.

All too true. politics however is not the art of the perfect but making the best of what you have. If Republicans rallied around a Balanced Budget Amendment they would give people a reason to vote for them rather than hoping folks merely vote against the evil party.( As long as they are making a contract why not throw in Term Limits and some way to privatize education!)
The Constitution is the only “contract with American” that any political party needs to succeed. The ‘Pubbies should try adhering to the “original Contract with America” and all would be well.....

I would like to agree but evidence indicates that only a small minority of voters have any idea what the Constitution says and even less of what it means. I have long been amazed at the people I meet who claim to be conservative Republicans but advocate all kinds of government action in direct violation of the constitution. The first thing we need is a return to the original voter qualification restrictions, relaxing those requirements was the first grave error that led to all the other grave errors. Sadly, I see no possibility of that even being considered, let alone done.
If you have a chance to meet them and they claim to be "conservative" and start asking for your vote after supporting such nonsense, smile, look them straight in the eye and say "sorry, I don't vote for Marxists". You will then be treated to the biggest exercise in crawfishing you can imagine. These sort of people think no one is on to them. When you call them on it they usually go ballistic. I had an opportunity to do this once with Lincoln Davis, (D) TN. He's supposed to be one of the so-called "blue dogs". I wish I'd have had a picture of the look on his face when I told him "I don't support Marxism, and therefore, I don't vote for Marxists like you!" I said it loud enough that those nearby could hear, too. The look on his face was just like what you'd see when you catch a 6 year old doing something they know they weren't supposed to do. Classic.

I agree. I would love to see the original requirement to be a land owner in order to be able to vote. You should have to have a vested interest in the country, not a paid welfare broodmare who will sell their vote for a hit of crack.....
To the few hardy souls who’ve made it this far I have decided upon a name for the new contract. It should be known as “The Republican redeclaration of Independence” . Like the original it should list the abuses, but this time also list the proposed cures.
