Franken's deficit: 236 votes
Minneapolis Star-Tribune ^ | 11/7/08 | Patricia Lopez

Just as Secretary of State Mark Ritchie was explaining to reporters the recount process in one of the narrowest elections in Minnesota history, an aide rushed in with news: Pine County's Partridge Township had revised its vote total upward -- another 100 votes for Democratic candidate Al Franken, putting him within .011 percentage points of Republican U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman.

The reason for the change? Exhausted county officials had accidentally entered 24 for Franken instead of 124 when the county's final votes were tallied at 5:25 Wednesday morning.

"That's why we have recounts," Ritchie said, surveying the e-mail sent in from the county auditor. "Human error. People make mistakes."

The margin in the tightest Senate race in the country bounced like the stock market throughout the day, with the difference between Coleman and Franken dropping, then rising briefly to 590 votes before shooting down to a razor-thin 236 by day's end.

In a reversal of the previous day, when Coleman had declared victory and suggested that Franken should waive a recount, Coleman kept to himself on Thursday, while Franken called reporters to talk about the prospects for a continued narrowing of the count....

Good grief.

Is there no decent, patriotic statesman of a Democrat on the planet.

Guess I just answered my own question....I just pray he is not allowed to steal it from Coleman.

In 1948, Lydon B. Johnson did the same in Texas - finding “lost” ballots for the Senate race. He was then called Lying Johnson.

This will be razor thin, whoever wins.

Exhausted officials wrote down a wrong number?

Do they use paper ballots in Minn? Why would there be such chance for human error if they use optical scanners, touch screens, or even the Florida style punchcards? All of those are supposed to produce clean re-counts, aren’t they? Just wondering...........

Oops! Only a couple more hundred left to find! Keep recounting!

I’d puke, but being this is an article about Franken, that would be redundant.

Thios was a common practice in Texas, republican and democrat. John Connely was his campaign manager and he spelled out the details in several interviews. Johnson had lost before when the other guy, “found” enough votes to win.

There is no question as to who will win. It will be Franken. Since the race was a statistical dead heat, any of the corrections should mirror the election results. That they (always) seem to benefit the rat, you can conclude that it is only a matter of time before the democrat machine steals another Senate seat.

Attorney Barr McClellan, the father of our dear Scotty the Bush Basher, wrote a book about Lyndon Johnson’s voting fraud and how he had ordered Kennedy’s assasination. Everything was known to his Texan friends for years. Very violent manner of making politics

So...it takes 1 day to count the votes originally but it's gonna take over a month to count them again?

PATHETIC!

A couple but they aren't on a national stage.

A few months back my democrat township supervisor faced a recall that he won by a wide margin. He wanted people to be sure so he called for a recount that left him with a 1 vote margin of victory. He was reelected in this election with a 17 vote margin.

I just saw the LBJ edition of American Experience. About half way through it was clear to me that LBJ certainly had personal motive. He was driven to the power and both Kennedys had him in check as VP. Looked like Kennedy would be in office for 8 years and LBJ’s career was over for all practical purposes.
