In Fort Worth, Obama's election prompts run on guns and ammunition
Fort Worth Star-Telegram ^ | November 7, 2008 | ANNA M. TINSLEY

Allan Craig is scared for the country and for himself.

So less than 48 hours after Democrat Barack Obama was elected president, Craig went out to buy an M-4 rifle.

"It’s for protection," the 57-year-old funeral director from Weatherford said. "I’m fearful for our country. I think there will be violence. People want to go in and take over this country . . . trying to destroy America.

"I will protect myself and my family."

Craig is part of a wave of people nationwide who, even before the election, began stocking up on guns and ammunition amid fear that Obama might put new gun restrictions in place after he takes office Jan. 20.

Obama has said he respects the constitutional right to bear arms but said last year that he wants to restore the ban on assault weapons.

The buyers are increasing demand for guns and ammo, swamping stores and causing prices to rise.

Law enforcement officials and Obama supporters say fears about unprovoked violence against Americans, from outside and within, are overblown. And they definitely see no legitimate need for people to rush out and buy weapons.

"People have had all this time to buy whatever they wanted since the assault-weapons ban expired," said Tarrant County Constable Sergio DeLeon, an Obama supporter. "There’s no legislation in place prohibiting them from that. I think a lot of fear has been built up by right-wing radio.

"There’s nothing to suggest that Barack Obama and the new administration would generate any cause for security concerns for the people of this country."

Craig said he’s heard all that and still wants to stock up, and he expects to have a lot of company from others unhappy with the results of the election. "I’m in a state of mourning for our country," Craig said.

My son has a Tennessee carry permit, and I am taking the class tomorrow. I’ll have the certification behind me then I can have that debate with myself whether it is a good idea for the state to know that I have a permit. Although a person in Tennessee can get a permit without owning a firearm, I’ll be on a list. I have been on this planet for 61 years and had a rifle and access ro a handgun since I was twelve, and I have to go to class.

Tennesse, especially East Tennessee is a bit like Texas as far as gun ownership is concerned. Even Knoxville does not require local firearm registration.

Don’t forget gunshows and now is the time to start going before they are ended. Not by a ban, but the red tape and financial burden on the promoter will be so harsh that no one can afford to stage them. That’s the secret of this “loop hole” closing effort. It is a sly way to end gunshows without actually prohibiting them.

From the article: "gun owners have taken the president-elect’s statements and other political talk in recent months to mean Obama might seek a nationwide prohibition on concealed-carry licenses and possibly a huge increase in the federal excise tax on guns and ammunition, said Jim Dark, executive director at the Addison-based Texas State Rifle Association."

Get 'em while you can-- from my files:

H.R. 1022: Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007

On Concerns Over Gun Control, Gun Sales Are Up

From "Change.gov", the official transition website. Agenda tab and then select "urban policy" and go down to "Crime Control".

Address Gun Violence in Cities:
As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

There will be no one left to protect you
Barack Obama wants to institute a Civilian National Security Force, a vast militia not unlike Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, a personal army. He knows he would need such a force to protect him and to enforce his will on Americans. Americans will have not seen such arbitrary power used against them since the days of the Civil War when Lincoln put the Constitution in the bottom drawer of his desk and set about arresting anyone who opposed his policies...

VIDEO of Obama calling for a Secret Police Force: CIVILIAN NATIONAL SECURITY FORCE??

QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT civilian national security force.

“Just as powerful, just as strong, and just as well funded.” So the astute observer and deep thinker might reflect for a minute and be compelled to pose several questions (although the MSM won’t)...

Did you read the rest?

"Ben Agger said he’s concerned, though, about what is prompting fear in gun owners. "What is the underlying motivation . . . to buy assault weapons?" asked Agger, a sociology and humanities professor at the University of Texas at Arlington who wrote There Is a Gunman on Campus: Tragedy and Terror at Virginia Tech. "Part of me worries this is an expression of the need for people who disagree with Obama to arm themselves because they entertain the thought that there could be armed conflict or possibly race war."

Anyone planning to buy an assault weapon has either read what William Ayers has written or knows what sort of Black liberation theology Barack Obama believes in.
