In all my life, I’ve never heard “man” of various heritage referred to as a mutt. I’m speechless.

Have you ever heard a man referred to as a "stud"?

Where I come from it was common to say one was “Heinz 57”, meaning he had all sorts of ancestry. They do refer to mutts as Heinz 57 too

I think I figured out why Obama's comment bothers me. The word means a mixed breed dog, a dog that will end up in the pound if no one takes it as a puppy. There's no market for mutts.

In other word, to call someone a mutt, even oneself, is to devalue that person.
