Obama Planning U.S. Trials for Guantanamo Detainees (bringing them to the US!)
Fox News via AP ^ | Monday, November 10, 2008 | AP unsigned article

WASHINGTON -- President-elect Barack Obama's advisers are quietly crafting a proposal to ship dozens, if not hundreds, of imprisoned terrorism suspects to the United States to face criminal trials, a plan that would make good on his promise to close the Guantanamo Bay prison but could require creation of a controversial new system of justice.

During his campaign, Obama described Guantanamo as a "sad chapter in American history" and has said generally that the U.S. legal system is equipped to handle the detainees. But he has offered few details on what he planned to do once the facility is closed.

Under plans being put together in Obama's camp, some detainees would be released and many others would be prosecuted in U.S. criminal courts.

...

Laurence Tribe, a Harvard law professor and Obama legal adviser, said discussions about plans for Guantanamo had been "theoretical" before the election but would quickly become very focused because closing the prison is a top priority. Bringing the detainees to the United States will be controversial, he said, but could be accomplished.

Another two-lawyer White House.

Someone should ask O: “How many wars have American lawyers won?”

Probably one of Obamalinsky’s first nominees for SCOTUS!

Since he thinks Roe v. Wade is atrocious law even though he personally is pro-choice, I could live with that.

Of course. I’m all for that. We need to do whatever we can. I just don’t think we’re going to be able to take enough seats back (by real conservatives) to make any difference.

We do need to cause as much turmoil and hostility as they’ve caused for 8 years, though.

Interesting.

Would be even more interesting if it actually happened.

I hope this sort of bunk isn’t signaling a return of worldnetdaily’s ‘Hysteric Book of the Month’ club to the FR.

***Bringing the detainees to the United States will be controversial, he said, but could be accomplished***

I'm sure Obama is going to have a sit down with them and explain in no certain terms that he and only he is the Messiah! Forget that Allah crap. Once they understand, I'm sure they will become productive, law abiding, citizens of the USA. At first they may have to check into a rehabilitation house with Obama’s aunt.

There’s something I really like about keeping terrorists prisoners on an island surrounded by shark infested waters.

Somehow, they’ll escape, or be granted amnesty, or some such other cr@p.

Why don’t we just bring them here and set them up with a nice job, and a mortgage, give them all free health care, bail out their mortgages get them some free education, like flight schools or Commuter transportation assistants or something of that sort. Certainly that would show them that Obama is not evil like Bush. /s

Those of us who voted against obama have done nothing.

This country is going to reap what some have sowed.

Sad to say, there are always the innocent who get caught in the fallout.

It’s called getting the controversial issues out of the way and over early in the Admin so as to be able to settle down to more mundane matters during the rest of the regime and hope that the public forgets all the pain of the first year. This is what new Admins do. They frontload the bad news. So be prepared for the onslaught. It’s coming and it’s coming fast. Mark my words.

Sad to say, I agree.

Time to stock up on supplies during the Christmas sales.

When you said the more mundane issues, you mean like nationalizing the utility company’s, the transportation company’s, the mining companies, the energy companies and Farming, right? you mean like ammending the Constitution to allow for unlimited term lengths for President. You mean like approval of Clone colonies and scientific research on aborted fetus. The establishment of a youth regiment well armed and funded (you know to stop terrorists). The stripping of the second ammendment to the Constitution, the deconstruction of the sacrament of Marriage, the removal of In God we Trust from our currency and the creation of law that makes it a criminal act to speak about God in the public square...... The dismantaling our our military and the building of a UN controlled Peace Force, a true Peristroika.... heck why not even change the flag its tired and old its obviously time for something new and fresh...

Right?

"I just don’t think we’re going to be able to take enough seats back (by real conservatives) to make any difference."

IMO, we need to start on our state government levels and try recruiting any real conservatives interested in going for a seat in Washington. I really miss Rick Santorum.

"We do need to cause as much turmoil and hostility as they’ve caused for 8 years, though."

Agreed. The only way to fight fire is with fire. Beat them at their own game. Of course, the "kinder, gentler" crowd will crawl out of the woodwork to admonish us for being "mean spirited" and and claim that we're losing the high ground by "acting just like Democrats". I suggest we ignore them. We need to keep it reigned in a little, but no more Mr. Nice Voter.

Even if you weren't a newbie, that would be a singularly ignorant post.

“Right?”

LOL! Exactly right. Get the big rotten stuff out of the way, and then get down to the slightly lesser rotten stuff. Bottom line, it will all be rotten, I garuntee it.
