An Escambia County couple died Saturday after an argument over the Alabama/LSU football game ended in shotgun blasts, according to Conecuh County authorities.

District Attorney Tommy Chapman identified the people killed as Dennis and Donna Smith of Appleton Road near Brewton.

The shooting allegedly occurred about 7 p.m. at the home of Michael Williams near the Owassa community in Conecuh County, Chapman said.

I spent four decades next door in MS, most of that time an avid Ole Miss fan. I learned long long ago that you can’t even joke with a hardcore Bama football fan in the aftermath of anything that didn’t go their way. True fanaticism. Oh, and this isn’t the first time there have been shootings in the aftermath. I’m almost positive that a father and son shot each other after a Bama loss in the past few years.

26 of 67 Alabama counties are dry. Conecuh is not one of them.

They’re LSU fans. It’s justifiable homicide.

Over a football game

It's more than a football game. It's heritage, it's finances, it's family, it's religion. Down here brides don't get married unless it is a bye week. Funerals are held on days other than Saturday. Sermons are preached about football games. Football is life. Wait 'til the last Saturday in November. This state is divided up and down. The RATS are on the west and the good guys are on the east. It is the way it is.

— The LSU fan called him after the game.

— Came over to the man’s home.

— Pulled a gun on the man.

Sounds like Darwin’s theory is at work.

“...These kind of idiots have the right to VOTE. ugh...”

For a couple of these people, that can be said in the past tense.

Nope. They'll probably be votin' in the next couple elections.

I am ashamed on some of the comments on this thread. Two people died. I thought we were better than the Daily Kos. I guess not.

The cartoonist H. Payne did a cartoon recently (Oct. 23) showing a man and his wife walking up to the door of a house with a big M flag outside the door. The man has MSU on his sweatshirt (so obviously Michigan and Michigan State--Payne's cartoons appear in the Detroit newspaper). The woman is saying, "Remember, talk about religion or politics--but NO football!"

(Found on the HenryPayne.com website)

reevee69...some posts flirt with being insensitive, but you must understand that people are simply mocking the fact that these idiots took up ARMS over a freaking FOOTBALL GAME! Now these people deserve some criticism if you ask me. While sad that people died over such an imbecilic argument, it is nonetheless inherently moronic of them to have elevated it to the point they had.
